Thanx Mathew & Nick for your replies.

The publican's son was the singer in our band. I think, although i'm not sure, his name was Pete Johnson. We called ourselves Johnny Dark (Pete) and the Midnighters. With various changes we had some success as we evolved into Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages.

Once again Thanx.

I used to be the Assistant Manager from 1985 to 1988 on and off along with Dave and Val.

But I do remember my brother used to go to a folk club in the evenings as well.

I haven't been back to whetstone since 1997, so I don't know much more. I now live in Dorset

The Black Bull

When I was a young musician in the late fifties, we used to rehearse in The Black Bull Public House.

I seem to remember it was on the main road between Finchley and Barnet.

I left England in 1966 and now reside in Western Australia.

Does the pub still exist?

looking for a beginners string quartet.

I am a 41 year old grade 3 cellist and would like to meet other adult string players of my grade or above (if you're patient) to play with at our homes just for fun and practise. I get bored practising on my own and love to play with others. I belong to a small beginners orchestra but it doesn't run over the holidays and is quite expensive.

I live in Friern Barnet/Muswell Hill.

Another option...

The other writer is quite right, but consider catching the WAGN overland train from Oakleigh Park instead - 15 minutes to Finsbury Park and then on to Moorgate weekdays and Kings Cross weekends.

It's still busy, but much quicker to get into town.
