Warning to, Non Westminster resident, shoppers!

This warning concerns Westminster Council Trading Standard/Consumer dept.

If you are a Non-Westminster Council Resident who shops/buys a product from any shop with Westminster Councils areas, be advised of the following:

If the product you buy, is faulty or the shop will not deal with it, and you approach Westminster's Trading standards, you are in for a shock, as the Council told Me, they do not serve or help Non Westminster reidents!

I was told, one has to go back to their own Resdent Council, and get them to deal with it. It is LAW I was told.

Since then, I emailed Westminster and asked if it was Law, which Law was it?

Westminster has replied back, but instead of giving a Yes or No, have twisted my question around, and demanded my NAME, ADDRESS,etc, before they will answer my query!

This illegal conduct.

As I suspect what they told I, is not Law.

So non-Westminster Council shoppers, do not buy from Westminster Council's area!

Location for short film: Flat/House- Needed in London – Low pay

We are shooting a short film in 7th, 8th and 9th of November 2008. We need a spacious flat/house, preferably an open plan space. It can be a loft, a warehouse or a spacious flat. It doesn’t need more than one bedroom, but the open space or the living room should be spacious. We would need (reasonable and pre-agreed) unrestricted access during these three days.

The director is a recent graduate from the University of Bristol who’s won national prizes in cinematography.

We can only offer £100 for the whole period and a copy of the film once is completed. Would suit anyone wanting to hire the flat for productions as a showcase or anyone wanting to shadow a short film production.

Please get in touch by email and email your address and pictures of the flat in the first instance.

Cheers.

Very

I have never felt more comfortable than in this part of town. You are near a lot of government offices etc, so there is usually a high police presence, including an armed guard outside Scotland Yard (by St James' Park tube).

Its quite quiet as well - not in a spooky way, but you don't come across large gangs of kids/teenagers/drunks standing on street corners.

The only places I slightly avoid after dark are the large social housing estate on Great Peter Street, the street directly behind the House of Fraser and around Victoria station. But just one street away and it feels fine.

Hope that helps!

The Two Chairman pub

From the mid/late 1990s till 2002 a pal and I used to enjoy a pint in "The Two Chairman" pub. This historical pub had a marvelous atmosphere, sold real ale and good food. This particular pub must be one of the best pubs around and I will remember the the tavern with fondness.

NEW AFTER WORK BOOK GROUP

If you’re interested in joining a relaxed and informal book group in W1 then read on…

We are going to once a month to discuss the book choice, drink a decent amount of wine and meet some new and interesting people. We will read good mix of contemporary and classical fiction, although try and avoid any populist or obvious choices- (see Dan Brown)

The venue is just across the road from lovely Regent’s Park, and in the summer months we have access to the private resident’s gardens so can hold our meetings in there, eat nice cheese and pretend we’re in a Manet painting. If you’re interested email

Hi Fedra

To find out about local GP's, call NHS DIRECT on 0845 46 47 (24hrs). Otherwise check out the website of your local PCT (probably Westminster, if this is your local authority). The Dept you need at the PCT is PALS (Patient Advice & Liason Service). They can give you details of all local NHS services.

Hope this helps!

Thu Oct 06

no it is not average

you will be paying the toip end of the london market to live in westminster. there are some (dodgy) council estates, but i don't think you would really want your daughter to live there. however wherever she lives in westminster she won't be bored. its a question of whether you are prepared to pay the (very high) price to live there.

Tue Aug 31

Very reasonable, and excellent service provision

I will find out exactly how much I pay, as I can't work it out in my head, but it's very reasonable, especially if it's single occupant...

Mon Mar 17

Proximity / Transport

It's close proximity to everything.

Tube, bus, and mainline train - you can have it all, and go anywhere. People will come to you too...

Mon Mar 17

Shoeless Joes is nice - just of Victoria Street, near St. James Park station.

Westminsters a great place to live...

I love it. I have found it quiet without being isolated. The travel is excellent, and I can be pretty much anywhere across London faster than most of my friends.

I have found the local services, doctor, dentist, optician etc easy to locate, and all very pleasant.

My rubbish gets collected daily, and the provision of services for very reasonable coucil tax is better than anywhere else in the country.

There are good restaurants / bars / pubs, and loads of night-life centres (the West End / Fulham / Chelsea / Clapham / Brixton) within easy distance by cab / public transport.

The shopping is easier than most other central London locations, and far cheaper, and I feel safe walking home from the tube / bus at night.

Generally, 10/10!

Mon Mar 17

Westminster Station, Parliament Sq

Wesminster station is usually OK, and very convenient for the City, on the District / Circle, and Jubilee.

Anywhere in Central London is always going to be busy during rush hour, but I have found that timing Victoria right can be a lot easier than one would imagine for the busiest tube / mainline station in London.

Mon Mar 17

The Belgrave Medical Centre, Pimlico Road

The Belgrave Medical Centre is probably the best in the area, with two absolutely fantastic partners, one male (Dr. Shakarchi) and one female (Dr. Muir).

Both are thoroughly approachable, and the pratice has appointments within 48 hours usually.

There are travel clinics, pre and post natal clinics, and well woman and well man, as well as two on site nurses, an osteopath and a counsellor. They offer minor surgery and have excellent referrals to Chelsea & Westminster as well as many other specialist clinics in central London.

The number is 020 7730 5171

Mon Mar 17

Queen Mother Sports Centre, Vauxhall Bridge Road

The Queen Mother Sports Centre, has a nice pool and from what I understand is very reasonably priced. It is just South of Victoria on Vauxhall Bridge Road.

I have attached a street map link, though I'm not sure whether it'll come through on the forum. (Copy and paste the link into your browser - it should work)

www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=****4&Y=****6&A=Y&Z=1

Mon Mar 17

Addison Lee - excellent Cab Company

Addison Lee is all over London, but always seems particularly ready to come to Westminster, and arrive very quickly there.

They are 100% safe, and very reasonable.

All their cars have in-vehicle satellite navigation, which means that they'll get you where you want to go, without going round the houses, A to B without visiting Z if that makes sense!

The number is 020 7387 8888

Mon Mar 17

Victoria Dental Centre, Warwick Way, SW1

Yeap, there's an excellent Dentist situated on Warwick Way - the Victoria Dental Centre, where there are I think three resident practitioners offering a wide range of specialisms, and a full range of NHS treatments.

The phone number is 020 7630 0782.

Mon Mar 17

depends where youre getting on

At Pimlico it is just about possible to squeeze on to the Victoria line in the rush hour, as a lot of people get off at this station. Victoria is extremely busy, in fact the platforms are often closed off because they are so full of people waiting to get on the train. St James's Park and Westminster are both better, provided of course that the district/circle line hasn't broken down!

Thu Jan 02

yes, sort of

There are a couple of branches of Fitness First in Victoria (find them on the Fitness First website) but from memory they cost about £45 per month. LivingWell on Millbank is excellent but costs over £50.

Thu Jan 02

yes there is!

There is a small Tesco metro off Vauxhall Bridge Rd (Warwick Way) and a slightly larger Sainsburys on Victoria St. There is a much bigger superstore sized Sainsbury's just over the river on Nine Elms Lane in Vauxhall.
