I have been looking for a social club around the Swiss Cottage area and wonder whether there is one in existence? My friends have moved away. I'm looking for light-hearted people with humour, wit, conversation. Not an "interest" group, somewhere to socialise, have a drink and a chat :)
Hello to you from The Cosmo Restaurant.
I was one of the staff in 1982-1983. I was working in the coffee bar, with Barbara (girl from Poland). In the restaurant my colleges were: Manola (waiter from Spain), Esjus (waiter from Spain), Ombertrud (first manager from Italy) Grazella (waiter and Ombertruds wife), Michael (2. manager from Germany), Passqua (chef from Spain), Arviar (chef from Spain) and my self Steven (coffee bar and kitchen from Denmark)

YES! I DINED THERE OFTEN when I lived in compayne gardens PLEASENT MEMORIES
I also had a very bad experience with them from Heathrow. They took much longer than they promised and added more than 15 pounds handling fee for the credit card without telling me first. I have been complaining to them for a refund on the fee for 2 weeks and although they admitted over the phone that they had forgotten to tell me about the fee, I still haven't received anything and have only once managed to speak to s manager.
I HAD used this company for over 25 years with mixed service levels until tonight. I have a 7-month pregnant wife and a 3-year old child. I rang up from Geneva airport and was told to ring back when I arrived at Heathrow.
I was ASSURED that a cab would be present within 10 min of arrival.
Upon calling I was told 45 minutes which was after 5-6 hours of delay due to fog in London. The operator basically did not care what was previously agreed even though I has thanked them for their understanding from Geneva.
I will NEVER use this company and I would advise any of you to do the same.
I remember Cosmo well from the 1970's. My friend lived in Fellowes Road and we used to eat often at Cosmo, it was reasonable and did good food. I recall all the old East European men chatting away! I think it was their home from home. No idea where the staff went though.

Hi there Does anyone know of a domestic cleaning company in the area? Our tenancy is up on the 28th Jan 07 and we would like to enquire as to whether a company would be able to come and clean the flat after we have removed all our stuff. We have three bedrooms (2 large- one small) a large sitting room and a small kitchen and bathroom/toilet that will need to be throughly cleaned. Carpets as well if possible. All the quotes I am getting are between the £140-£170 range which we think is a bit steep seeing as the flat is in pretty good shape. Does anyone know of anyone who would be able to do it cheaper?
We have our own cleaning equipment.
Try the big sports centre in Swiss Cottage. They have yoga about 5 times a week. Email me at

Could you possibly give me an idea who can come to measure and deliver two big mirrors for my flat?
I have no idea when you posted this question but it is named that i think because of the 'Swiss Cottage' pub in the fork in the road.... a pub that looks like a swiss cottage... might have been built afterwards but don't think so

Looking for a Painter & Decorator for Property Maintenance, Restoration, Refurbishment, Interior/Exterior Decoration?, free estimates:
Yes, Soap Opera on Winchester Road, I find, is quite reasonable. I recently had 5 tops, 1 jacket, 1 pair of trousers and a jumper dry-cleaned for 30 pounds.
Does anyone have the contact details for Spanish Classes in Swiss Cottage, it should be £50 for 10 weeks! thans for you help! please email me at
But I would be interested if you have found out
I use the Hotel Marriot's gym at Swiss Cottage. After checking out all the others in the area it offered the best deal because you can join for 3 months only, to see if you go, and don't get locked into a contract for the whole year. Cost per month for the 3 months is about the same as the cost per year which is about £65 per month (from memory).
Other reason I like it is that it's a) very close to my house b) very small and never too many people c) has pool d) more personalised atmosphere and they don't do the hard sell e) you can drop in to any other Hotel Marriots and use their gym too. Very handy if you are working near the Marble Arch one for instance.
is there still a branch of amy's cook and dine on finchley rd,or has it moved1 if it is still there let me have contact details thanks
Would you please inform me if there are any volleyball sessions or volleyball teams training in the swiss cottage sports center? thanks
Am finding it really hard to find a good value gym, and know the price of it, in this area, without having to put up with endless 'inductions' and hard sells. Any advice? I read about 'The Circle', but as with all gyms it doesn't really want to tell you how much it costs before they get you in to look at their spa!
I´m spanish and will move to swiss cottage in late november and would like to know if there is any market/supermarket where i can buy vegetables at a reasonable price.
Can anyone tell me where I can visit a decent tanning salon in Finchley Road/ Swiss Cottage area that have standup booths? I'm in desperate need of some 'artificial' sun!!!!!!
I have to organise my daughters b'day party in a hurry (10 days to go). Does anyone know of a good and reasonably priced venue I could hire in swiss cottage?
Their menu is great and the atmosphere is lovely, very trendy and quite reasonably priced. They have a good menu for vegetarians, too.
Does anyone have the contact details for Spanish classes in Swiss cottage - apparently £50 for 10 weeks?
There is a kick boxing club on the corner of Fairhazel Gardens and Fairfax Road, can't remember the name I'm afraid. Less than five minutes walk from Swiss Cottage tube.
No, but just today I got the name of a personal trainer who might do kids. My son is 7 and we'd be interested in sharing weekly lessons with someone. Let me know.
Can anyone recommend a dry cleaner around NW3 that doesn't require taking out a loan whenever I want to get a few suits sorted?
Need to know if there is one area where i can get a nice meal and a few good bars for a relatively drunken friday night
The Circle Health Club

Does anyone know the best way for me to find a rental flat/bedsit in Swiss Cottage. I visited yesturday and fell in love, but my budgets only £120 max a week inc bills :( Being a poor student is starting to become unfunny!) Please let me know! my e-mail is
Central location, the Finchley Road nearby, easy access to Hampstead Camden as well. The area feels lively, properties are very nice - but also very expensive. Benihana has an outlet here if you like Japanese food!
Can someone recommend a good GP, in swiss cottage please (that is not fully booked until Feb 2008!) Thank you
Does anyone know of a Kick boxing class for children aged 7/8 in the swiss cottage area
You can call Zingo check out their website www.zingo.com. They use satellite navigation and you are put straight through to the taxi driver who is usually 5mins away. There is only an additional charge of £1.60 on the bill. Black Taxi's are the safest route of travelling and not more expensive that a mini cab - eg swiss cottage - west end during the day £9.00 with a tip
Bradleys on Winchester Rd.
Rosmarino in St Johns Wood
There is also a great Italian in Belsize Village. The Gate vegetarian in Belsize Village is good too. The Balti Hut, Swiss Cottage is a good reasonable priced Indian.
good website to use www.squaremeal.co.uk
Establishment Nightclub and Bar right next to Swiss Cottage tube station. THe pub which used to be O'Henerys next to Finchley and Frognal overground station on Finchley Rd. Wetherspoons is busy in the o2 centre as is Walkabout.
there is a hair dressers on west end lane, called 123 hairdressers (right by the tube station) costs £20 for cut and blow dry - ask for Fatima or Louise.
Swiss Cottage Cabs are good (020 7794 5556) and also Meadway in Golders Green are reliable (020 8458 5555)
Both are minicab companies. (I'm not sure whether they're licensed, but to date, I've not had a problem)
in Fairfax Road is fantastic - I've been going there for 14 years, and to date I've never had a bad meal yet!
Esporta's in the O2 Centre - they often have promotional months (ask to be put on their mailing list).
I like it! It's convenient for all transport links to the West End and City, (both buses, tubes and trains), shops are open late, there's loads of cinemas, there's a gym, masses of restaurants, good book shop in the O2 centre, a library. Just convenient. I've lived here 14 years (and I have no intention of moving yet!)
South Hampstead (British Rail) to Euston takes 6 mins, and the trains usually have seats available (although get a timetable, cos the trains run only every 20 mins)
Often it's quicker to get the buses from Finchley Road in the morning and as they run regularly, you can usually get a seat! Buses 13, 113, and 82 all take about 15-20 mins to Bond St from Swiss Cottage (often far more pleasant than the tubes!)
Does anyone know of a reputable salon where a female could get a decent haircut for under £30? Im new to the area and need to find someone I can trust. Perhaps you could even recommend a good stylist ladies? Thanks for the help.
The Acol Bridge Club on West End Lane, West Hampstead
A short walk away from Finchley Road, England's Lane is the home of a range of good quality shops, cafes and restaurants. The Washington pub and Starbuck's stand like sentinels at the Primrose Hill Road end, and the Lane itself gives way to the romantic Paradiso Italian restaurant, a Bengali-run restaurant hosting tasty dishes from the sub-continent and a Chinese restaurant I admit I've yet to try. There's also a few more cosmo caffs which are good for sitting in and around over a newspaper on a weekend morning. Crispin's minimarket is well-stocked but can be pricey, Thresher's (formerly Victoria Wine) handy for take-home drinks and England's Papers a good little newsagent and stationery shop. There's also a chemist which doubles as a post-office and another newsagent's further down the road which boasts a good selection of cards for all occasions.
there is also a marks and sparks i think its on finchley rd
Outside the tube station there is a pub called The Swiss Cottage that looks a bit like a swiss cottage (all made of wood). I think that's the reason.
does anyone know of a bridge club in hampstead or swiss cottage?
The Singapore Garden Restaurant on Fairfax Road is nice.
If it's Camden (NW6) it will be a bit higher - £1,410 for a 3-bed flat (whatever property bracket that is)
I always use 0207 431 2700 - they're reasonable and I've never had any problems with them.
Answer asap please as the people coming to dinner are going to ask me!
Waitrose is right next to Finchley Road tube.
If you are well positioned, you can sometimes nick a seat at Baker Street.
Your best bet is to jump on a bus to Regent's park, cruise around, and try to get a game in one of the kick-abouts.
Green cottage chinese restaurant, on finchley road. The food is excellent. I've been going there since the mid eighties.
Depending on the area, it can go up to £1,200/year in Westminster (NW6), maybe higher. Check on Westminster council website.
Nice houses (although many ugly ones too). 2 cinemas nearby (warner village at the O2 centre, Odeon Swiss Cottage). 10-15 min away from Primrose Hill with a nice walk to go there, some shops up north on the Finchley road area, including the O2 centre. Very close to West-End (<10 min to Bond Street on the Jubilee).
