ant body in ???????????????????????? GUESS NOT
Having been born here, I have never been mugged or burgled or had anything nasty happen to me. If I go into town, which I often do, I use public transport and feel quite safe walking up the brightly lit avenues.
As for families with children, Dunraven ,which has infants as well as secondary schools, is so sought after and one of the best schools in London!
so, all the people that slate the area, ask how many break ins or cars stolen you have where you live- cos we ain't got none here!!!
What is the new number for Streatham Bowling!
This is a fair assessment and it is not fair that this chain, which is now the Co-op has this prime site. I had two bottles of wine snatched from me at the till by a surly member of staff there with no explanation forthcoming- had to assume that either I was a very young looking 50 year old or I was suspicious in some way.. looked at myself in the mirror but still puzzled to this day...!! Use Sainsbury's up the road and you can also frequent some local shops on the way and help them too.
There is a good fishmonger at the foot of Leigham Court Rd opp Streatham Hill station - "Fish Tale"
My husband and I are newly wed young professionals, who is eager to leave pretentious clapham for more down to earth affordable Streatham minutes from Artsy Brixton!
The area is chill and rough around the edges, which I love. We can comfortably afford our mortgage and have money to play and travel! I can't wait!!
I have leaved in streatham close to lido next to park for a ten years I love it as I had ver good neighbor I never complained intact I love Streatha.
Hi,
I live in streatham (Telford Avenue) and i am looking for a running partner. I am desperate to get back in shape but would love to do so with a partner.
Hi, I'm local painter and decorator. Looking for reliable, professional company to undertake any painting & decorating task at your home or office? Please get in touch: email:
I am looking to buy in Streatham fairly shortly, so if you could share the pubs you're talking about that would be great. My main concern about moving to Streatham has been a lack of nice (or just decent) pubs and restaurants, so any suggestions would be most welcome!
Looking at putting an offer on a first floor flat on Tierney Road. A friend used to live there a while back and liked it. It's hard to gauge whether there's much of a sense of community in the area - can anyone offer any advice?
Do you know where the Extensions hair & Body center has been relocated.
The girls who used do threading there were amazing!
There is a tennis club called Telford Park, Killieser av.
Its really lovely
Hey! I'm viewing a house in streatham hill next week and wondered what people thought honestly of the area. I have been living next to an alleyway in shepherds bush for a year so hopefully better than that! Daisy :) ps: are there any good yoga classes or (so random) charity shops!
Hi All,
I would be so grateful if you could please give your honest opinion on below:
Is Streatham hill a good location for a business thats into a variety of African artifacts, trade beads, fabrics and ethnic jewelry, wood carvings, soapstone carvings accessories include beautiful handmade handbags, t- shirts, scarfs and many more. Home accessories, using uniquely colored fabrics (batik) for table linens, bed linens, napkins, cushion covers made from colourful quality african print.
do you believe there is a market for such business? if not why not? are people spending in streatham|?or go elsewhere to shop?
Thanks

I was very pleased with the price but thats not why I'm recommending him. It was the work he did it was superb. So much so I had to bump a little extra to the price to say thank you as I wasn't expecting much for the money initially agreed. His name is Shem **** 684 153
I am looking to move to Mountearl Gardens, would someone give me an honest opinion of the area? Mail me at
Not sure what you're aim is here, but you must be confusing Streatham with West Norwood. And, as far as I'm aware, the hookers are only available from the watershed onwards so your 3yr old should be tucked up nice and tight like a bug in a rug by this point and not subject to all the drugs and condoms that flow down the A23 like the red sea parting waters of people who say ignorant stuff about a varied and historical area of London where some of us are actually proud and happy to live - hey AT LEAST you can't say we aren't teaching younguns about safe sex. Great post after all.

As one who's just moving (although not permanently) to the area, I'd appreciate knowing the best reasonable restaurants, pub food venues, etc., in or near to Streatham Hill. Let's exclude McDonald's and Pizza Hut, please. I don't want to take a bus ride everytime we go out to eat. Your recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Best regards.

I moved to Streatham 7 years ago from Clapham. When i viewed the property before moving into it i was told that Lambeth Council was going to upgrade the building that i reside in the year i moved in..regrettable to say that i have been fighting for major repairs for the last 7 years and no joy.I and my son have lived in hell in these past 7 years and now that i have had to give up work due to health reasons i am still fighting for repairs to be rectified..the building is falling down and my windows are falling out. STREATHAM i hate.. to much traffic, noise.all hours of the morning and rubbish left in streets,no wheelie bins..just a disgrace?

There is a great new fish mongers and speciality olive shop recently opened opposite Streatham Hill Station, .. can't think of the name right now, ... it's close to the fish and chip shop but not in the same category ... well worth a visit and hopefully Streatham residents will get behind this independent shop which has bucked the trend and actually opened in Streatham !
Hello.
I am a reiki practitioner.
Reiki is a Japanese technique where the benefits are in two key points: it relaxes and balances energy, promoting tranquility and mental clarity. Through a gentle laying on hands makes the patient balance the own energy, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Makes understanding of ourselves and our environment. It reduces stress and helps to achieve goals, finding our own answers, grow personally and spiritually. One hour session
I paid a lot more than that for my place on Tierney Road just before the housing crash and I have no regrets. It's a good road, the houses are big and beautiful and the gardens are big. Transport is pretty good. There are loads of buses going everywhere and the Victoria line from Brixton is really quick. Not to mention the train stations.
Several major developments planned to take place all over Streatham, including on Streatham Place should improve the area more and make you 230 price tag look like even more of a deal.

The Turkish (I think) shop at the top, past the sainsbury's, has a butcher that has always given me excellent lamb and beef, the one with the orange canopy. nice people working there and you should get some 'Gorek' bread whilst you're there too. no chicken or fish though.

I am looking for a tailor to adjust my bridesmaid dress. If you can recommend anybody or know of anybody suitable then please
I live on the edge of Streatham Hill near Christchurch Road, anyway.. I definately have no doubt that Streatham and Tooting are nice areas.. it kind of goes down to your postcode. SW2 and SW16, SW2 on the one hand has Brixton Hill, Streatham Hill, Tulse Hill, All the hills basically, and i wouldnt recommend living there, everytime i go past on the bus i see people fighting, i've seen prostitutes walking the street, and drug dealers too. Maybe this just depends on what part of 'Streatham' i live in, i dont feel im "feeling" the love you guys give this area..
The police even did a raid on our flat and found a Drug Lab sort of thing, I definately think we're not talking about the the same Streatham.. but it depends... Not trying to put you off buying, just saying it how it is, if everyone just butters up the area
Hi, I live in the Streatham hill area and I am trying to find some interesting evening classes. I am 29yrs old and would be willing to try anything once provided it was interesting! I would like to move as well to Streatham Hill, and I am a single lady. So, is it safe????
I moved here from Croydon in November and haven't had any problems. I spend all my time in either Streatham, Brixton or Croydon and have never had trouble in any of them.
I think the reputations preceed the places and do become exaggerated through chinese whispers!
You must be crazy....let them go to Croydon instead....its like World War III there on Saturday nights...the sooner Caesars shuts the better so no more smashed windows and drunken hordes puking at 3am on our streets.....streatham high street already resembles the West Bank lets close Ceasars for ever...
great idea unfortunately I believe this requires thought and vision and brains..all three of which is clearly lacking in the council planning offices in Brixton.....just look at Wandsworth to see how things should be run....
Lets hope that LB Lambeth give the go ahead for the possible redevelopment of Ceasars/mega bowl. The area is in desperate need of some regeneration...although I fear that it will be another Tesco/Leisure Centre fiasco...we are still waiting after 8 years for this to be built so I'm not getting my hopes up....probably be 2015 before they start building....
I totally agree with you. I think that the area has great potential hence all of the young professional types snapping up the houses and flats in the area. Regarding Caesars and the Megabowl, ambitious plans are afoot to redevelop the entire site and the project is now awaiting approval from our chums at LB Lambeth Contact
Have lived in Streatham Hill for 28 yrs.Lucky to have lived in same beautiful detached house &garden.Adore our house no need to move.If you didn't know it, during summer months, not last Monsoon 07 summer, you could be fooled into thinking you actually live in the country! However, Streatham High Road is a terrible eyesore & pollution zone.Has become more rundown over the yrs.Don't shop there and haven't done so for over 20 yrs.Just wish M&S could do a deal with the local council & replace dreadful Caesars Palace, Bowling site and even more recently, since the P.O. has moved into WH Smith's, why not take over that beautiful building and construct a mega M&S store generating a higher footfall & income spending clientele? No need to pay the C.C. not yet, I guess,& create a SW shopping paradise in place of Marble Arch.Other businesses would follow suit if this took place.Streatham plus surrounding area could rise once again like a Phoenix to its former glory! THINK BIG!

I've recently moved to Stretaham Hill from Leeds and am looking for the best tennis club to join in the area.
I'm looking for a good social club but also one that plays competitively in local and regional leagues as I'm keen to keep playing team tennis.
Can anyone recommend the best options? Also, how much on average do you expect to pay for club membership?
Cheers
Sorry, I know you shouldn't post complaints, but if you can praise a tradesman, why not be able to do the opposite and save people grief. I hope you will accept this.
Avoid FEDERATION PROPERTY MAINTENANCE - a south London based individual who recently advertised in the Croydon Advertiser. He did some work for me and I wish he hadn't. Won't go into it on here, but believe me, avoid him.
It would be good if they actually upgraded and redevoped Caesars night club to attract a different clientele to fit in with the young professionals that are buying houses and flats in the area. Yes, there are some good bars around now however people like to have a dance and party on sometimes and it would be good to have somewhere nice to go.
Do we really need more shops there are enough already.
Interested in moving to a flat above the abbey bank on the high rd - next to the odeon cinema. All is good apart from the fact that you have to go through a (code entry) gate at the top of pendennis rd and then a sort of courtyard (not open to the public but not massively secure either) to get to the door of the block as it can't be accessed from the high rd. Would really apprecitae views on this in terms of security in that particular area - thanks so much.
I know this has been discussed peviously but I'm unable to email any of the people involved in the discussions. I moved to Streatham Hill in June last year with my 18 month old son. I currently take him to the one o clock club at Battersea (it was the friendliest one I could find) but it's quite a distance. Does anyone know of any groups that get together in the area? We live on one income so I would prefer to not get into contracts etc. Otherwise can we not maye just find a group of us to get together at the rookery for egsample?

That whole parade is being redeveloped, supposedly. There was an exhibition for locals to have a look at the proposals. That parade is owned by the people who bought the bowling alley and are proposing that it is all demolished and a new shopping complex, flats, gardens etc built. The plans are being submitted to Lambeth really soon.
I hope so...
El Barakka on Streatham High ROad sells excellent ( halal) meat. It is spotless, a real find on the high road, selling lots of interesting teas, olives, olive oils, spices, cheeses .. etc. Friendly staff, next to T2Move in the Dip on Streatham High ROad .. go try the chops, excellent for a barbeque, you won't be disappointed ...

For those still wanting the name and number of a good plumber we use a guy called Dave on ********0. he's also corgi registered and qualified plumber. Our boiler went recently and our shower stopped, he's been an absolute star and sorted everything for us, however he does the work in the evenings as he works full time as a gas inspector. About £65 per hour. Dave is also extremely trust worthy, we've left him with our keys on numerous occasions. get him fast though as in six months he emigrates to Australia!
