Lynn Burford.....
I was googling abourne street and this site popped up. Mum lived there and went to st saviours.
Trying to trace where this was as my Great Grandfather lived at no 8. It was off Compton Street, now Maida Vale, but the whole area seems to have been demolished and replaced by flats that were built at 90 degrees across the former street.
Campbell Street Schools still exists, now Paddington Green Primary. It aws renamed in 1962 which suggests the redevelopment happened around then
Hello
My fathers brother was Tosh Powell who died in a match against Billy .According to the inquest the promoters and toshs manager was to blame
After at least 7 generations living in a few tiny villages in Kent, some of my ancestors made THE BIG MOVE, to Little Westbourne Tce, Paddington, then to 33 Little Melbourne St, Paddington. She (sadly) then died after having 12 children, but he remarried and set off with new wife and some of the children on the "Buffalo" (1st Fleet to South Australia) to be part of founding Adelaide. This one generation travelled more by far that all the other generations in total. But what happened to Little Westbourne Tce and Little Melbourne St? What would life have been like there in 1830 - 1835?
try looking on the HARLESDEN SITE
Hi my maiden name is Housego. I lived in Honiton Rd Queens Park area. My grandad was Bill Housego, the boxer. Fred Housego (of Mastermind) is, I believe my dad's cousin. My grandparents lived in the upstairs of the house in Honiton Rd, we lived downstairs. My brother is called Ron and our two cousins, Billy and Barbara lived there. Unsure of our grandad's brothers names, but believe there were quite a few of them. I was born in 1948

Can anyone help me trace my father's family history? My father was James Arthur Grieve b. 1915 at 4 Odessa Rd Harlesden. His mother was a Margaret Grieve but I have been unable to trace more. His father is not named anywhere. My father was fostered and went to school somewhere in this area. A few years ago I posted here for help in my research but nothing came of it.
I am now having another try as I have found that my father's foster mother could have been either a Mary Ann (b. 1862) or a Mabel (b. 1874) COUCHMAN both born in Lynsted, Kent. A Mabel Couchman was a witness at my parents' marriage in 1944. On the marriage certificate my father's first names are reversed to Arthur James Grieve.
I know it's a long-shot but does anyone have either of these COUCHMAN ladies in their family history files?

Vaudeville Theatre is on The Strand, the nearest Underground Station is Charing Cross, about 5 minutes' walk away. From Paddington take the Southbound Bakerloo Line direct to Charing Cross; it takes about 15 minutes. Trains run back from Charing Cross every 10 minutes until 00.29 (23.43 Sunday) so you've no need to worry about missing the last one.

i am a qualified LAMDA drama teacher. i am considering moving to the paddington area of london for a change (im from liverpool) i would make my living by renting a small hall and conducting drama classes throughout the week for small children up to adults. i would also put those who were really serious about drama in for drama exams. is there much demand for this, not just in paddington but in the surrounding area's? what would the people of london consider a fair price for a 2 hour lesson? please leave a reply on here or to

I would be interested as well
I just moved into the Paddington area and I am looking for a good bike shop for tuning up and finding necessary equipment for road bikes. I have searched my immediate area on foot and tried searching online but with no success. Any help would be great.
Hi There!
I am looking for a cheap gym in the area of Lancaster Gate/Paddington Station. I dont mind council gyms. Hope somebody can help. Email:
Can anyone tell me of a good hairdresser within walking distance of Paddington station? Cheers
Cannon's fitness is right behind Paddington station. It has a pool, gym, fitness classes in a nice new gym environment.
£60 per month - no contract
There is also the Porchester center at the top of Queensway which has more facilities.
i want to travel from paddington to eastham station at night after 10 pm.can u tell me which train i need to catch?my email id is
Hi there :) Seymour Leisure Centre has badminton courts but not a club - but if anyone wants a lunchtime or after-work game during the week I'm always happy to play (I'm intermediate standard but enjoy playing at any level, I already have a knockabout once or twice a week with a mixed crowd from work) ... I work for a charity in the area. You can e-mail me here -
If you fine anywere let me know would love to play and learn myself. Half reasonable i suppose
Does anyone know of a guitar group where people can meet and play guitar based in or around Paddington. With this I am including beginners and maybe people who want to learn to read guitar music.
And the 'fresh' vegetables are usually anything but. Better to wait and get fresh produce from Church Street market on a Saturday morning
I get the tube at 8am from Edgware Road station into Waterloo, and if you aim for the last carriage of the train, you can sometimes get a seat. Any later than 8am and it's murder. It's especially bad because all the people travelling in from Kensal Green and further out will have got a seat before you can get on!
Paddington is a great part of London to live in - generally pretty safe, and there is so much of everything you could possibly need on your doorstep. If you like falafel/Middle Eastern cuisine and culture, then that's definitely a plus, because Edgware Rd is teeming with kebab shops, felafal bars, and cafes. There are also some nice pubs, and it's brilliant for shopping. it can feel noisy and crowded, but that's central London. I think it's cleaner and brighter than some other bits of Central London. Recommended!
Check out Seymour Leisure Centre on Seymour Place W1. They have a multi-purpose sports hall and I often see people going in and out with badminton raquets and basketballs.
They also have a nice swimming pool, run a scuba-diving club, and have a series of fitness classes
I am looking for squash, badminton, volleyball or basketball clubs in the neighbourhood.
Does anyone know of any?
You could try the elysees hotel(www.elysesshotel-london.co.uk)...or the westpoint hotel...there are also the piccolino hotel(+44-20-****439) and the grand tourist hotel...(+44-20-7370-3310). They are all pretty chaep if you consider theprices in London....The elysees and the piccolino are the cheapest ones...
To do justice to horrid Safeways, the almost totally 'ethnic' staff try hard to be friendly and Morrisons is rapidly lowering prices and increasing range.
Teeth@W2 on Norfolk Place is great. Aayesha is really pleasant - she had Gareth Gates in her surgery once.
Hi, I'm a 23 year old F, I was about to get a deal for a really nice flat to shaer with a mate but she let me down!! Anyone (girls only!) interested in sharing with a nice girl??!!
i am wandering if there is a council gym in the Paddington area. I don't want a membership but somewhere I can visit semi regularly.
Very good value. Pubs and bars by the dozen. great transport. superb period properties. rent very competitive. near to hyde park/kensington gardens. recommended.
perhaps someone knows a good and cheap hotel at paddington.
or a b and b
thanks
on praed street, West Two surgery. you hardly have to wait any time to make an appointment - it's NHS and i've only ever seen lady doctors there, all of whom are really friendly and gentle. check it out
A gastropub on Chapel St near the Edgware Road Tube. Good atmosphere and exceptional food.
do anyone knows where alan Rickamn might live in Paddington?
can anyone recommend a reliable and gentle dentist in W2 ?
Definitely, LOADS of people playing football at weekend. Especually on North side. Even better probably is Kensington Gardens between the bandstand and the Palace (well that house where she used to live anyway.)
nearest I'd say is hyde park, heaps of field space between Marble Arch and Hyde Park corner. Prob about 10-15 min walk from Paddington station
Is there a park in the Paddington area, nearish the station where people play soccer?
If you don't mind a small walk this is a Lebanese place just a bit past the end of Queensway on Westbourne Gro. Great if you want a HUGE feed and a quality place at a decent price. I got lamb shanks and it honesly could have fed a small fijian island for a day. You get a whole bowl of whole salad veges on the table too!
I can't remember the name of the one I go to but it's on London St on the corner of Norfolk Square - and it's pretty easy to get a fast appointment, they don't make you wait long - and the people are great.

I've been living in Padd'n for the last 2 years. OK, not much someone might say, but I feel I can confidently say "I Know Padd inside out" ;-) Not only is it excellent value for money with regards to property lettings, but it's also close to "almost anywhere", given that it boasts outstanding transportation links to "almost anywhere" (again..).
TRANSPORT:
Tube: Circle, District, Bakerloo, Hamm&City, Rail Station, Heathrow Express.
Extensive bus network linking Padd with the rest of central and west London!!
SUPERMARKETS:
There are a few supermarkets in the area: a massive Safeway on Edgw Rd, Sainsbury's@ Padd Rail Station & Westbrn Grove, M&S on Edgw Rd and in the Whiteley's shop. mall in Bayswater. Want more? Budgens and so on...
DOCTORS/DENTISTS:
Plenty of choice in the area, chiropractor in Norfolk Place, herbal/alterntv medicine on Praed street PLUS the benefit of living close to Saint Mary's Hospital! well, God forbid..!
BARS:
As bars
There is also a budgens on Westbourne Grove. Much quieter than the safeways on Edgeware road. Good for essentials.
Well there's a small Sainsburys located in the station which has your essentials but not much of a range, then there's Safeway on Edgware Road, which is always hideously busy. Expect tiny aisles, no trolleys, long queues and rude staff. There's also Tesco off Edgware Road but it's a bit further away and also quite small. Best option in Paddington is internet shopping!
Cubana and Steam. Cubana is a funky little Cuban bar on Southwick Street, which serves the most fantastic margaritas and nice food too. Steam, located in the Hilton right by the station, is also very nice and does amazing eggs benedict.
