Anyone know where we could find out when the youth centre (PowerStation) in mortlake first opened as a youth centre? Any local historians?
Hi!
I’ve found an apt in Richmond and one in Mortlake. But I can’t decide where to live. I know the Richmond area, but I don’t know Mortlake at all. I work at Heathrow Terminal 5, I don’t have a car. I love the Richmond-area, but the apt I’ve found in Mortlake is lovely. It’s just that I don’t know what it is to do there...... Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am a single woman, 43 yrs old. Where would you pick if you were me....? ****6;
Not sure when you posted this but I am also looking to join a book club so have you had any luck? Or are you interested in setting one up with me?
Anyone looking for a cycling buddy in the area?
Nothing fanatical - Richmond Park, Thames etc.
Does anybody know if there are problems with the sewage works in Mortlake? I'm considering a flat swap
but I've heard that Mortlake smells of sewage during the hot summer months.
I am doing some research on Kenny Pickett (The Creation) and I am looking for the name of the pub where he died on stage on 21st Jan 1997. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Southwest trains have a bad reputation but luckily the main crush is from Putney onwards, you will normally get a seat unless you get on the train between 8am and 8:30am when you will probably have to stand.
The trains are all pretty much new now with air conditioning which takes a lot of the stress away and I think they're pretty reliable since they made the timetables more realistic.
Hope this helps :-)

HI everyone! I'm desperate to find flatshare accomodation that will accept my 10 yr old dog, Leo. He's very clean, quiet, discreet and affectionate and won't destroy the house! After 100 "nos" in 2 weeks I'm feeling very discouraged as you can imagine. If anyone knows of anyone with garden willing to rent please get in touch! Email:
DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A GARAGE TO RENT?
Thanks
The ship pub down by the budwiser brewery, does a great one on Tuesday nights from 9pm. It is free to enter and you can win drink tokens.
When I lived in East Sheen the Railway Tavern always used to do a good quiz on Tuesday nights.
Does anyone know of a pub quiz in Mortlake?
I love living in Mortlake, I've been here over a year and eat out a lot and haven't even got close to eating in all the restaurants; pluses are the parks [esp Richmond], river, pubs, supermarkets, a brilliant butcher! But watch out for living above shops on the main road, Upper Richmond Road West. The traffic never really dies down. With double glazing you should be ok but when the weather hots up, like it did recently, on rooms which face the road it's either have the windows closed [baking hot] or have it so noisy you can't hear anyone speak.!
The Sheen Lane Medical Centre's good, never had trouble getting an appointment. It's next to the Library on Sheen Lane, 2 mins walk from Mortlake Station. They're on 020 8876 4086.
Are there many young people in and around mortlake and where do they hang out?
When you take a train between 7:45 and 9:00, there are only standing spaces at mortlake with more people coming onboard in barnes, putney etc. Take a train before that and, permitting no cancellations etc, a seating place is almost always available.
Recently refurbished, these two places have lovely atmospheres and the food is great.
I have just found this site and want to know if the high school is still there? I went to the school during the fifties and maybe some of the pupils at the school will read this. I left England in 1959 and went to NZ, but have lived in Australia for the last 26 years.
Regards
Chris Smith
The Ship is an old traditional pub on the river down by the brewery and has a great community feel to it. Great food (new menu recently) and it wonderful in summer to sit out by the river or in the quiet garden.
They also have live music regularly, a brilliant quiz every Tuesday and lots of theme nights (Halloween, Hawaiian etc) where there always seems to be plenty of people dressing up. Great place to go, can really become a perfect 'local'!
Safeways & Waitrose are only a 5 minute walk from Mortlake train station and they are both large supermarkets situated next to each other.
Council tax in Mortlake is actually only 1,100, so lower than Ricmond as has been suggested.
Lovely casual place to drink and great food
Mortlake comes under the borough of Richmond, so it's a bit on the pricey side. Band D is about 1400 a year now.
Annie's is ok, and the Treehouse isn't bad either. Depends how much you want to spend - try The Depot - lovely river views if you can get a table.
Sainsbury's is just down the A316 by car, but waitrose and Safeway are walking distance.
River, history, shops, Barnes Common, Richmond Park. Bit more 'real' than Barnes but just round the corner.
Very lively proper pub with a whole mix of customers - ages, types etc. What I particularly like, being a dog owner, is that children aren't allowed but dogs are (!), so there are always a few milling round. Lovely views of the river. Dodgy food.
