Not sure if this is connected, but I came across a reference to the Marylebone Ladies Rifle Club, Devonshire Place. Looks like one or more of the female SOE members shot there during WWII. Was trying to find out more about it myself.
The sensational Jimmy Hammond makes a welcome return to London with his exhilarating live show. Dressed head to toe in original American vintage threads, singing and playing pumping piano driven boogie woogie and rhythm and blues from the 40's and 50's. A power-house performer that captures the spirit, passion and energy of the pre rock 'n' roll era.

Hi im looking for information on an amatuer football team who won the marylebone football league in 1938/1939. They were called Devonshire rangers. Their matches were played in regents park and reported on in the Marylebone Chronicle but no amount of web search shows up either team or newspaper. please hlep.
Yes, the Beehive PH has surely changed from what it was during the 1980s. I called in the pub earlier this year, but did not stay too long as the bar staff were asking £4-£5 for a pint of beer so that was a double negative whammy. How sad!
My mother lives in Marble Arch and is a bright and intelligent 80 years young.
My father passed away 2 years ago and my mother is just bored and lonely but doesn't know how to meet similar people to herself.
But she loves playing cards, going to the theatre etc and if she could work with someone to set up a weekly club it would give her some direction and also help a lot of others who must be in the same position.
If you are interested to take this further, please do contact me and lets help make London as much fun for our parents as it is for everyone else!
Thank you

I recall that during the 1980s the British Unidentified Flying Objects Research Organisation (BUFORA) used to hold monthly Saturday meetings of an afternoon or evening at the London Business School. BUFORA later relocated to the University of Westminster. Does anyone know whatever happened to the organisation? And does anyone recall whatever happened to some of the members including Jim Fawkes, Dave Atkins, Steve Gamble and Bob Digby?

I would like to make contact with anyone who is interested in the St Vincent's Orphanage and School for girls, which was maintained by the Sisters/Daughters of Charity. It was in Wigmore Street, Marylebone, from 1875 to 1937, and then moved to new premises at 14 Blandford Street, Marylebone, at the beginning of 1938. The girls were evacuated to the Bristol area in September 1939 on account of the Blitz; when the war was over the school reopened, but not the orphanage. My aunt was in care at the orphanage in the 1930s. Please contact me at

Guitar Teacher Wanted for complete starter
Central London if possible
Hi there,
Did you ever get a response to your post? I am looking for the same thing & would be interested to hear what you found out.
Kind regards
I was at Flavia's during the 40's and early 50's. Was in many of the shows at the Met, Chelsea, Collins' Music Hall, etc. I remember Pat Tobin, Sheila Fish, Maureen and others.
Some time ago I heard from Mike Hurst (Flavia's son) who mentioned that he has all of his mother's photos. Would have loved to have seen some.
I live in the U.S.A. now but still recall those happy times. Would love to hear from you and other ladies from the school.
From 1964 till 1968 I was a member of the Royal Arsenal Rifle Club. Every year we used to compete in the London Busines House Rifle Championships in the Marylebone area. Could anyone remind me of the location of the range? And does anyone have any records of the results from the above period?
Thanking you for your attention in this matter.
I am not sure the two pubs listed below are what you are looking for, but I recommend the two pubs listed below:-
1: "The Beehive", Crawford Street;
2: "The Barley Mow" (?), Dorset Street, which was run by a Geordie.
The last time I drank in either of the above puts was with a pal during the early 1990s when we used attend lectures nearby.
Both pubs had a lovely ambience, a lot of history, sold real ale and good food. Had I lived in the area I would have made either of the above venues my local. But maybe things have changed during the past fifteen years'. The only thing I can suggest is to visit the taverns yourself and make your own decisions accordingly.
As from September, I shall be attending more lectures in the area so I will be reminiscene in "The Beehive" again and will spot the changes, if any.
There used to be two good pubs near you which is listed below:-
1: "The Beehive", Crawford Street;
2: "The Barley Mow" (?), Dorset Street.
The last time I visited the above venues was during the early 1990s and in those days they were very good as they sold good ale and good food; and had a lovely ambience such that had I lived in the area they would have become my local. I don't know what they are like today especially in terms of watching one's pocket so may it might be worthwhile and trying them out!
About 20/25 years ago my pal and I used to enjoy a pint in "The Beehive" pub in Crawford Street. I loved this pub as it had a village type atmosphere and a coal fire in the back room.
Another pub my pal and I used to like was "The Barley Mow (?)" in Dorset Street. This particular pub which was run by a Geordie had similar qualities. As I recall the pub had a lot of history of which I need to be reminded.
Both these pubs must have been amongst the best in London! Can anyone please tell me if the above pubs are still in operation and what they are like today.
I went to Madame Flavias school in quex road in about 1953-54 I appeared at te Metropolitain theatre in one of her shows and was in her troup of girls that appeared in Goodie Two shoes pantomime at the Brixton Empress and East Ham Palace. Have you any photos

I am 37 and am looking to buy a property in the Marylebone area. I would be happy to mind your house in exchange for looking after your pets and plants for a few months whilst I look for a place to buy.
I am single, well adjusted and hold a management position in a local company. I love the area and am an active member at the local church. References available.
I've lived in the area for ten years and have never found anything better than Cinammon Spice on Glentworth Street (just north of Marylebone Road). Fantastic food, they deliver, and it tastes just like someone's Mum has cooked it. yummy.

They have a lovely view, but they are very basic, and generally have an unclean feeling about them.
Still, the area is lovely and great for food, bars & beautiful streets.
