Just a slight correction to your enquiery-----the garage in Odell Road belonged to the International Transport who contracted to Kearley's. You graduated there from their other garage in Tredegar Road on reaching the age of 18 and becoming a 'Drivers Mate' that permitted you to have nights out when on long distance runs. Prior to that, at Tredegar Road, you were classified as a 'Van Boy'. Hope that Helps

Bow is quiet and leafy yet is a stones throw from all the fun of Brick Lane, Old Street, London Fields etc. Its 15 mins on the central line to Oxford Circus so its more central than people might realise. Its a really friendly place, some of London's remaining eastenders live here! Victoria and Mile End parks as well as the canal are on its doorstep. There are nice pubs too, as well as useful shops and a farmers market. Come and live in Bow!

Hi! Does anybody know anyone in Bow or around bow who need to rent a room (to a couple). We are a lovely australian couple looking for a friendly, fun yet professional household in east london. :)
Check out the Bow Quarter complex if you haven't already!
Sorry. My prior post will seem a bit out of context- the lady asking questions about Bow probably moved here (or not) months ago!
I've lived in Bow (in the Bow Quarter) for about 1 1/2 years now and haven't really ever gotten nervous about the area.
It is admittedly a bit rougher than, say, Kensington or Notting Hill, at least on the surface, but that's true of most of London.
I often come home quite late and am not at all worried, though I'm only 5'3 and 7 stone. That said, I lived in New York City for 7 years, and in other areas of London as well, so I'm very urban. Therefore, my perception of the area might differ slightly from the views of someone who was more accustomed to a rural environment.
I lived here for 6/7 months but had to get out! I never felt safe at night even walking down main roads, rarely had a good night's sleep due to fire engines/police cars driving by so regularly. No supermarkets within walking distance- have to get bus. No night life- or at least places I would feel safe entering, no cinema etc. My life improved so greatly once I'd left!

I use Stroudley Walk Centre which is just off bow road (or devons road if you're down that way) and are fab, they're open late on mon & tues, and also saturday mornings. I've got a long term condition and have never seen a doctor there - sounds terrible, but its a testiment to how great even the nurse practitioners are! The building is a bit dingy but the care is excellent.
Hi I'm moving to Bow and want to find a decent docs surgery to join - can anyone recommend anywhere?

I have been to the practice on roman road several times. Both the dentist (Mark) and the hygienist are very professional. I have had a lot of dental treatment and i find them to be the best in terms of quality. The price is not the cheapest but i think it's worth paying for quality when it comes to your mouth.

We are moving to East London, from little old Tasmania (Australia) in June 2008. Bow looks like a convenient and interesting place to live but I would really like to get some feedback from some locals. My husband is a builder and roofer and I am a librarian and we will be looking for employment while we are there. We are moving with our 14 year old son so we want a safe neighborhood that maybe has a decent school nearby.
Any information about living in Bow would be greatly appreciated.

I'm shortly moving to London as I work in Canary Wharf. Ideally would like to be located for an easy commute to the wharf and easy to get to the West End. I'm looking at East London area, Bow, Bethnal Green etc. but wondered if anyone could advise on any newish developements with great views of the city/canary wharf that are coming up or already around. I figured if i'm making the move to London I would really love to get somewhere (1 bed) that has amazing views of the city.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered!
City Airport has its own station on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). If you live close to Bow Church Station on the DLR is is easy to get to City Airport.

Thank God my Partner and I have found an excellent Dentist in our locality.
We tried a couple of Dentists near us and they were run-down and the dentists were disinterested so much so we did not go back.
Then a friend recommended Marian Lewis's practice in Roman Road.
What a diference! Very clean, professional but friendly and the Dentist we saw had been there 10 years and so had most of the staff.
It really made a difference.
1 bed furnished flat in Manhattan Building. New kitchen and bathroom. £250 pw.

there is a dentist opposite whitechapel station called Abbey dental. Its OK and they take NHS so you only have to pay about £14
Did you every find a reply to this?
Dr Rana's practice in Merchant Street has a female GP I think it's Dr Rana's daughter.
Whilst I found at first that M. C. Lewis were a laid back and friendly practice I went back each time to a different dentist. There was a guy there who did some work on my teeth which I wasn't pleased with and when I went back because of jaw and headache problems because of the jaw alignment he just filed most of the tooth down, leaving it rough, it ruined the crown. The reception staff leave a lot to be desired with their attitude too, you can stand in front of them and they will ignore you for ages. My friend still goes but refuses to have the chap do any work; she has gone back a couple of times and seen the same person. I go to a Grays Inn Road Dentist near to my work.
The Little Driver is now a great place to grab a drink on the way home from work, and is halfway between the tube and DLR, just under the Ferodo bridge. Under new management, it's half way through an extensive refurbishment programme, and serves great food if you can't be bothered to cook at home that night, with main course all between £5 and £7. The crowd is all ages, races etc. and really reflects how diverse Bow now is. With regular entertainment and party nights, it can also be a proper eastend night out, and the new beer garden is amazing!
I have a 1500ml bottle of BRUT le Comber et Fils Champagne for sale 12% Vol @ £15.00
If interested you will need to pick it up.

Quix in Stroudley Walk have a small selection but okay if you just want the latest big releases
The Little Driver on Bow Road, (between the tube and the DLR) have just had their beer garden re-landscaped, and it is fantastic - the perfect place for some drinking in the sun!
