Yes, I remember Clouds the green-grocer whose shop was on Anerley Hill between Palace Road and Pleydell Avenue. In the same row of shops was a boot menders and a grocery store owned by Mr Watts. My mum used to shop at those shops as well as the shop that sold wool for knitting this would be in the 40's/early 50's. I went to Anerley infants school in the mid 40's and then onto Oakfield Road secondary modern school in Oakfield road either Penge or Anerley.

Memories of Anerley

Hi Ann and Virginia,

Ann, I remember you and Bert very well.

I do also remember the 'Clouds', we used to get a lot of our veg from their corner shop.

Virginia, I remember you too. Hadlow place looks a bit different now (from what I see on Google maps). The scout hall is long gone. Didn't you go to Brownies there with my sis?

I've got a couple of class photos that you may/may not have seen: a nativity in the hall at JD and a class pic taken in the playground. Email me if you would like me to send a jpeg to you.

You both might remember my sister Stephanie. She now lives in Leicestershire and I am in Yorkshire.

I went to Anerley Primary School then to Melvin Road School for my senior years. Lived in Beverley road, born in Weighton Road..1943.

History of Betts Park

The park was named after Frederick Betts, a local landowner who donated the land. The park opened in 1928. There was also a library within the park and it was named after Frederick's wife. Hope this is useful to you Lisa.

Seymour Villas

I lived at 19 Seymour Villas with my sister Anita through 1940s and 50s. The garden backed on to Betts Park,we climbed over the fence especially when the fair was on and to meet friends at the swings. I think Anita knew Rosemary Youles and I am still in touch with Elise who lived in Seymour Terrace.I used to meet my grandad at the top of the road and ride on his bike handle bars down to ours. He also climbed the fence to play tennis in the Park.

Tremaine Road

Hi, we might be moving to Tremaine Road about half way down. We've been a bit around the area (don't know it well) and it seems quite quiet and nice in the day. We also went to The Mitre and the landlord seemed friendly.

I've checked on a crime stats website and there are a few incidents of anti-social behaviour recorded. Just wondered if that was anything to worry about? Is it okay at night? Safe to walk about? Are there any problems with the pub at night? Looked at my current road and that had similar stats and I've never noticed anything but just wanted to check. Thanks

Orchard Lodge Old People

I lived at the new properties built on the site of the old Orchard Lodge. I lived at 5 Rowan Terrace, Sycamore Grove for 8 years, before I lost it after a relationship breakdown. I always thought I saw someone come downstairs at night, and would call out to my kids to get back to bed, but when I went out towards the stairs/kitchen, no one was there. My kids would be fast asleep in their beds when I checked. Sometimes if I was in the house on my own, I would sit on the computer downstairs and something would hit me on the back, and for 6-8 years (up until we moved) my daughter would have night terrors and would come into me, wide eyed and scared out of her life, and I wasn't allowed to mention the word ghost, or something bad would happen. I was told that it was on the site of an old dairy, and a friend of mine told me she used to go to school at what is now the primary school on William Booth Road. She told me it was a home, and it used to be a bit creepy looking. It appears som

Mystery in Seymour Villas!

Does anyone remember or know anything about the grey stone terrace of Georgian (?) houses at the bottom of Seymour Villas? It was close to the entrance to Betts Park. I walked past it every day in the 1950's on my way to Anerley County Primary School and always wondered how old it was and if anyone still lived there at that time.

Buying in Stembridge Road

Hello,

We are thinking of buying a two bedroom terraced house in Stembridge Road SE20 or another in Cambridge Road. Wonder what kind of streets these are? People, shops etc. Also looking at the statistics online properties here seem to take a long time to sell, and wonder if there's a reason for that?
