plumstead Plumstead High Street

I recall working in the area during the 1960s before the decline of Plumstead High Street really set in. When I drove along the High Street on the top a bus recently after many years', it was spot the changes as the area looked a mess. The village-like ambience is still apparent, but the High Street is in a real need of regeneration. If the authorities copy the examples of Blackheath Village or Hampstead, Plumstead could look quite trendy and smart, and a place of which to be proud. This also applies to some of the side streets leading off the High Street too!

i totalling agree with you get rid of the hairdressers, barbars and other shops that do not need to be here. we would like nice vibrant classy shops with bars, and yes plumstead has to be included in the regenaration.

plumstead regenerate yourself!

Its not really the authorities that have all the sway, its big business. Starbucks opening in woolwich is promising, they obviously think its worth it. Big businesses use their very clever loyalty cards to do market research, so shopping locally is a good way to improve the demographic. I always pop into woolwich sainsburys to buy my organic produce, and use my nectar card that way they know there is a demand for it. Its about time that sainsburys was smartened up, its dingy! and they will have to compete with tesco's new eco store and organic market

plumstead Eglinton Hill/Brent road

Good morning all.

We're first-time buyers and considering buying a flat on either Eglinton Hill or Brent road. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some info. on this area?

Is it considered 'safe', what's the neighbourhood like etc.? Any info would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

plumstead Eglington Hill / Shooters Hill slopes

There are some gorgeous houses in Eglington Hill. Its a lovely area to live in, close to Shooters Hill Road. Loads of greenery from the green chain walk , in beautiful Shrewsbury Park and Oxleas Woods. Good bus routes to Blackheath, Greenwich, Charlton and Woolwich. Also lovely roads off Eglington hill - Dallin Road with allotments at one end, Nithdale and Genesta.

Also close to Shrewsbury house community centre in Bushmoor crescent which has all manner of yoga/art/karate/photography/ classes, also a nice baby clinic and pre school groups.

Definately safe, even Herbert Road which looks a bit dodgy on the surface but actually has some really friendly shops and is beginning to show signs of regeneration for all the posh people moving in

Does anyone know what's going in there? Or is the train station expanding? Works have started recently.

plumstead station

No idea what it is, hopefully it is kick starting some regeneration work. I heard the old Rose and Crown was going to be turned into flats too.
Perhaps it will be a deli or cafe ;-)
Or perhaps it will be another estate agents...house prices are definitely rising in Plumstead - especially near the common and there is lots of work being done to houses too

plumstead Property hotspot - PLUMSTEAD

We've just brought at the top of Griffin Road. I swear Plumstead is the last place in London you can get a decent sized house for not extortionate amounts of cash. I intend to spread the word to first time buyers.
Imagine if it had a nice little cafe or bar...the basis is there for a lovely villagey enclave.

The houses were actually built from the higher numbers down. The first one (most recently a VW repair shop, on the corner of Tuam and Erindale) was the only one recorded in the 1901 Census. My house is exactly half way along, and was built in 1906 according to the deeds. Another message has the latter ones built in 1910. It would seem that an extra house was squeezed in, as there is a no. 2 and a 2a.

plumstead Buying a property in Plusmtead

Hi ya,

Just seen a lovely two bed house on Flaxton rd (south of the common). The road around there are very nice but what's it like living in Plumstead? How would I get to Euston from there?

Any local knowledge much appreciated! Thanks,

plumstead Getting to Euston

I commute from Plumstead to Euston everyday- takes about 45mins station to station. Take the train to London Bridge from Plumstead and then take the Northern Line to Euston- easy!

plumstead A bit boring, but decent all in all

I live near the Common in the Conservation area, and it is really quite nice around here- if not a little boring. There isn't much choice for going out in Plumstead, so you'll find that you need a car to go closer into Greenwich, which is a 15min drive away. There are some lovely Victorian houses round here- some of which are being done up. Oh yeah, and on Plumstead common, there is usually rugby practice once a week if you enjoy sport!

Hi there,

I used to live around there and it took me around 1 hour to Euston door to door. I took the train from Plumstead to Charing Cross and then walked from there.

plumstead Benares Road - What Can you tell me about it?

I am planning on buying a property on Benares road and wondered if you could tell me anything about it? Any help would be appreciated. Is it one of the best places to live in Plumstead? What amenities are in the area. We have a baby on the way and would like a peaceful place, with parks if necessary.

plumstead is a good place to buy

I've recently bought in Plumstead- and it is quite nice- the commons are gorgeous and the people are friendly- I'd say that the closer to the common you can buy the better- there's a stark difference between the common and the high st!
