Hi,
Does anyone remember Rosie White's sweet shop on the corner of Westmoreland Road and Doctor's Street or Sammy Verrico who lived in Boyson Road. Sam's dad had a barber shop in Rodney Road. Sam was my dad's friend.

Walworth Nelson School 1960

Carol, your last name would'nt have been Furze by any chance, I was probably in your class then, I left Nelson in 1960 and was head girl that year.

The Ramsey Family who lived at 8 Anns Buildings in the early 20th Century were Polly and Bert. Thier children were George, Dolly, Emily, Bill, Lily and Albert. Albert was my dad. Dolly and Lily tragically died in 1919 in the flu epidemic. They used to talk about a family who lived near them called 'Gummer'. I think one of them was called Horace.

Can anyone help with the following?
I used to live in Danson Road. I remember the old area very well, especially what was then a thriving row of shops in Manor Place: Tozer's the butcher's, Harry Morrish's sweetshop, Bernie Phillpis Grocer's, the little 'oil shop' on the corner of Manor Place and Danson Road, etc. etc.
Back to the original question, if you turned right in to Danson from Manor Place, was the first on the left Pasley Road or Marsland Road.
Thanks.
D.

My mistake. That should be turned left in to Danson Road from Manor Place, not turned right.

I also grew up in Danson Rd. I also remember those lovely little shops. One memory I have of that shop was when I was five years old I went walkabout with my pram, much to the horror of my father, who was busy buying a few things, didn't see me leave the shop. I had a bag of suger in my pram and ended up being picked up by a policeman and taken to Carter street police station. I also remember the old swimming baths. Oh what great days they were.
