Anyone remember the Doctors at the Surgery on the Walworth Road? Dr James McManus was our GP. Wonderful man - because I already had a smallpox vaccination he made my second one next to it - it looked like a heart. He was a wonderful doctor and a great man. Sandra Fisher

Walworth Walworth Mann Street

 Mail-me

My grandfather William Butcher was born in Mann Street Walworth in 1880 - he was later killed in World War 1. His parents (also a William, plus Mary Jane Penney) were married in the local Church (St Peter's I think) in 1878, when they were living in Thurston St and Westmoreland Road respectively.

Does anyone know when Mann Street was demolished, or of there are any old photos of the street?

Walworth Walworth Boyson Road Memories

I can share many of your memories especially the pie and eel shop in Westmoreland Road and Faggots and Pease Pudding, though saveloys were my favourite as a child. Moved away from Councillor St many years ago to the City then to Brockley. Went back there to Royal terrace many times after the war to visit my Gran and Grandad and UNcles qho lived in the area. Had an Aunt Tomkins who lived in Hillingdon Street. As a up anf coming young man had my suits made at Levy'd in the Elephant, I don't suppose they are there now. Happy Carefree Days. I also had my suits made at Levy's i still have my original hanger, i live in Hersham, Surrey but still go back and ride around the old streets. Walworth Walworth Levy

I rarely go back to Walworth or the E&C these days, no relatives or ties in the area. I know Levy's closed down many years ago but I still have the Dinner Jacket made for me, also the suit that I had for my youngest daughters wedding, when she was 27, she is 62 this year. Of course niether fit me!!
The nearest we get to the area is Brockley where we hold my school reunions. Now live in Cambridgeshire, retired over 32 years ago.
