Stratford yes...

quite a few members of the local community hold group readings in the Golden Grove most weekday mornings from 11am. They tend to focus on periodicals such as The Racing Post and The Sport, but all-comers are welcome and all are free to contribute their own input.

The meetings are not organised by any one individual - they arise quite spontaneously and as such are part of the living, breathing organism which is contemporary popular culture

Stratford Living in Stratford

Hi

I've lived in Stratford (near Maryland station) for over a year now and neither myself or my female flatmate have ever had any problems. Obviously you have to use common sense (walking home by yourself at 2am is probably not a good idea - as in any part of London), but generally the area feels safe and friendly.

Their is also a taxi rank right next to Stratford station so you can always get back to your house late at night.

Hope this helps :-)

Stratford safe but be cautious

iv lived near maryland station for 3years and i havent experienced any problems.it is generally safe but you must be cautious as you should be with anywhere you live. there have been many incidents involing muggings but that is the same for any part of london you move to, especially south or east. my advice is i wouldnt worry too much but as always - be careful. it can be dangerous after 9pm!

Stratford Stratford safety

I've lived in Stratford for about 20 years and mostly I've had no problem at all so far as safety is concerned. I enjoy living here: it has fab transport links, exciting future developments, wonderful theatre, etc - will be over the moon when a deli finally opens. However, over the last couple of years, I have been mugged twice - both times walking from Maryland Station, once in Keogh Road and once in Carnarvon Road. I now get a taxi home at night.

Stratford ANY DODGY BITS?

I'm thinking of moving to Stratford in the near future. I realise that parts of it are pretty rough. A bit rough is OK, but does anyone know the areas which are particularly dodgy? Are there many of them, and how bad are they?

Thanks

Post reply -->London Stratford 30 Dec

Stratford

I think it varies from street to street. I think around Romford road is alright. That's where I have been livin the last couple of months, and I have never experienced any bad stuff. Even during the nights the buses are crowded, so you're never alone on the streets..

Stratford

Well avoid the Carpenter's Lane area or any bit from Stratford High Street up towards Bow Flyover. Very depressing and quite desolate. The rest of Stratford is fine. If you want to be near a railway station, check out Maryland which has its own station but only 5 mins walk to Stratford station.

Stratford

Have lived in Stratford all my life and not had any trouble. Like any other place in London you have to be alert, and a bit streetwise but overall its ok.

The area is going under major regeneration so slowly its getting better and better. The roads near West Ham Park are the nicer parts of Stratford

Post reply -->London Stratford 27 Dec

Stratford

No majorly dodgy parts as such, but just be a bit Streetwise.

is it really going to be a gambling shop? there will be over priced apartments overhead and a bunch of gamblers below? this is hardly part of the Olympic dream..

Stratford Youths in Stratford

What are they like in your neighbourhood? How would you compare them to other areas such as brick lane, stepney, whitechapel, plaistow etc? Think carefully and try not to judge from one group of youths and then project that view as the total population of the youths in stratford
