Rotherhithe Photo of St Marys School, Lower Road 1839-198x?

Do you have a photo of this old school?

It was located at the corner of Lower Road and Culling Road. It stood for 140 years, and was demolished in the late 1980's to make room for the Rotherhithe roundabout.

Early admission records for this school have recently been published by Ancestry.com, so there is great interest among family historians to find a decent photo of the venerable old landmark.

The only image on the web is of the old Hippodrome Theatre wth a tiny glimpse of the old school in the background. Do you have a better photo that you'd be willing to share?

Thanks!

Rotherhithe Westbrook and Keen family history

I'm looking for information on both the Keen and Westbrook families who lived in Rotherhithe and Deptford. My grandparents were Charles William Keen and Alice Lilian Westbrook and they spent much of their married life at 1 Hicks Street, Deptford. I'd be grateful if anyone knew of them or has any information regarding them or their families.

Rotherhithe Eugenia Road Rotherhithe

Thank you to all who have mentioned living in Eugenia Road. I live in Australia now and when i visited in 1994 most of the road was gone. Some mentioned 72 23 and 30 were any of these number near or opposite etc. There was only the Church a couple of houses and what appeared to be a low Highrise set of flats at the end of the street looked like they might have been built in the 1950's.. My morris ancestors were all Watermen Lightermen Dock Labourers living West Lane William Court Love Lane Elephant walk Paradise Street Galleywall Road Raymouth Road. dating back to 1686 Thankyou again for your replays

Rotherhithe Jim & Winnie Whipps

Does anyone remember Jim and Winnie Whipps who lived at 88 Amos Estate? They had a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Linda. Winnie (nee Meeks) was my mother's best friend from their school days at St Paul's School. Mum was born Lilian Rose Potter in 1912.
Yesterday I was visiting the area and discovered The Rotherhithe Picture Research Library near St Mary's Church. Looking through wedding photographs I came across one of an un-named couple, instantly recognisable as Jim & Winnie. It would be good to give the Picture Library a bit of information to include with the photograph.

Rotherhithe MOVED TO BRACKNELL

Hi
Strangley, I think I know where you can find Jim; at Bracknell in Berkshire. I worked there for a number of years until last Christmas, and knew him as I recognised his Surrey Docks voice (my family come from the Tunnel end of Lower Road). Strange again, I pointed out that we were distantly related. Last year I gave hm a pair of white cotton gloves, as he was playing Santa for his grandchildren. I believe he said that he used to return for Christmas to Rotherhithe for family get togethers until recently?
I think his wife/girl friend works at Sainsbury's in Princess Square in Bracknell too?
Small world.
Best to look up his name in the Bracknell or Ascot telephone book. Tell him Santa sent you. Ho,ho,ho!

Rotherhithe Amos Estate Rotherhithe

Hi, not sure how long ago you wrote on this post but my mother and her family lived at 106 Amos Estate up until the outbreak of the Second World War. Their name was Storey (Floss born 1916, Fred born 1923, Percy born 1925, Wyn born 1929, Doreen 1931, Stanley 1933) - they all went to St Paul's school too. My Mum remembers Winnie Meeks and also the Moore and Wardell families. I still live in SE London so I'd be really interested in the info you found out that I could research further at the Rotherhithe Research Library.
