Kennington The Duke of Clarence, Penton Place

My greatgrandfather, John Clark, was licensee of this pub in the 1880s. My grandmother was born there. Are there any pictures of the place? Be interested to see them.

Kennington De Laune Street

I lived in De Laune Street from 1947 to 1973. Went to Henry Fawcett School and then Archbishop Tenison's at the Oval. Nothing but great memories even though we didn't have a bathroom (went to the publc baths in Lambeth Walk - a great experience), and our playgrounds were bombsites (the site of the old Kennington Theatre, which was hit during the war.)
I too remember going down to Bob White's (great to hear from the Whie family, by the way) and also to that little pub in Cleaver Square - the Prince of Wales - where we had some great evenings in the early 60s.

Kennington Kennington Potter

Hi Everyone
I trained as a boy gardener in Kennington Park and I now live in Scotland. My main interest is finding more about Alfred George Hopkins, a studio potter working in Lower Kennington Lane in 1924-32. He moved to Broadstairs and died there. I appears he took over an old glassworks. Any information would be of great interest.

Kennington St Philips Demolished Church - Reedworth Road

Have lived in Lollard street for 16yrs now and recently saw the film S.W.A.L.K aka MELODY at the Media tech room BFI...starring Mark Lester! It opens with a slow shot panning back from the Houses of Parliament, where you can spot the old terrace houses and the church before it moves to the next shot of Kennington Cross Boy brigade marching!

Does anyone have photos/stories or maybe website info that I could research....for years I looked at vestry building beside the demolished church and didn't have a clue it was a vestry..........would be good to see photographs of interior and reason why it was demolished!

THANK YOU!

Does anyone remember Nell's shop along Kennington Road. I used to visit mt Gran in the late 1960s and loved going in this sweet shop. Always called Nell's. Also Bishops Park, as a little girl my Gran would take me and we would have a go at the pitch and put as well as the swings. I wondered if it was still there, have'nt visited for years. This is the stuff that memories are made of.

Does anyone remember Jimmy Cruse, he was my dad and lived in Wedgewood House, flats, from prewar until he got married to my mum June Debenham in 1954. They used to tell me such wonderful stories about growing up in Kennington. I never got tired of hearing them and now look at Kennington on the map and have fond memories myself. My dad's parents were called Tom and Lizzie Cruse, there was also their offspring Lizzie, Joey, Jimmy, Harry, Emmy, Mary and Ethel. I would love to hear from anyone who might have known them.

Kennington Braganza street - safe?

Hello everyone! I am moving in to Kennington next week. I wonder, can the areas like "Braganza st" or "Westcott rd" be considered as a safe place to live? It's quite close to the tube station and it seems to be very quiet there... But who knows?.
