Forest Gate Dunno about idyllic, but...

Capel Road. Overlooks Wanstead Flats and has draconian traffic-slowing measures, which keep it nice and quiet.

Forest Gate

In relation to the question about pubs i forgot to mention that the Railway tavern and the one next door is opposite Forest gate station, and Golden Fleece is Capel Road. Once you go there there a lots of others near by

Forest Gate Forest Gate Town Centre Supplementary Planning Guidance

Take a look at this document on Newham Council's website as it will change Forest Gate significantly. It went to the Cabinet on 21st Jan. Major parts of the Conservation Area and town centre will be demolished and rebuilt to provide blocks of housing - mainly flats. High rise, high density - very like the Eagle and Child site and will involve compulsory purchase orders to 'site assemble'.

Forest Gate

You are moving to a lovely desirable road, very scenic and nice road. lots of open space, pond and other delightful things to see.
I have lived near there since 1981 and now live down Chestnut Avenue which is off capel road, you will enjoy living there

Forest Gate The problem with Forest Gate now....

I lived in Forest Gate for over 39 years. 35 of them in tha same house. When i was a kid it was friendly, clean & safe area. I lived in Pevensey Road.
The decline, which you don't see if your living there day after day, is the fact that houses being bought were not for the people buying them. They were being bought to rent out. Unfortunately some renters tend not to care about the property, the area or the people in that area.
The landlords don't seem to give a damn either, as they see it as making a quick pound note. The council will gladly pay silly money to landlords to house 'so called' refugees. It's terrible to walk down Cementry Road passed those lovely new houses and see rubbish thrown everywhere, food in the gutter, bits of furniture just thrown out. These people do not deserve a house like that. I'm sure there are families living on bad housing estates that were cherise a house like this.
People don't seem to have any Pride anymore.

Forest Gate DAYS GONE FOREVER

hi, you are so right, i lived in forest gate most of my life and left for dorset 4 years ago. It used to be a great place to live, a great community and people who took pride in their homes, look at it now its crap, discarded bedding and furniture have taken the place of floral displays, the council are not bothered and inforce nothing, they recently planted trees in station road and allready weeds are a foot high and surrounded by beer cans and the like, you can walk from forest gate to east ham and it looks so run down and depressing, i could go on and on, the saving grace is wanstead flats and nearby, thinking of moving there DONT.

Forest Gate

Hi In Stratford area there is several places, pop in Stratford library or look in newham Recorder, or the free paper which should come through your door about whats on in Newham. In Manor Park at Froud Centre Romford Road, E12 they do it on a Friday look them up, if you pop in Stratford Town Hall there have lots of leaflets as you go in the door way you should find more information there about places there are a few and reasonable price.

Forest Gate good pubs?

Don't go to Hudson Bay-witherspoons- as all the lowlifes that have been kicked out of other pubs end up here.
The Hollytree in Dames road and the Lord Rookwood, Cann Hall road, are not too bad.
Golden Fleece, over rated, over priced, crap food and beer abit dodgy too.
The Live and let Live was quite good, but not sure now. might be worth have a try.

RailWay Tavern and the one next to it are great and lots of entertainment at both throughout the weeka nd at weekends.

Golden Fleece is the cheapest one I have visited and very quite, ordinary looking inside though depends on what you are looking for. Weatherspoon is on Upton lane very nice pub also chekc them out you are bound to like at least two of them enjoy

I think it must have been Forest Gate Maternity Hospital, which was in Forest Lane. The main building is still there - now, in Magpie Close.
