wanstead Great High Street

Great butcher and green grocer where meat/produce is miles better than anything available in the local supermarkets and you have the advantage of ordering something special. Plus the staff remember you and you soon feel like one of the locals!

wanstead The name Wanstead brings back wonderful childhood memories.

I was born (1956) and lived in Wanstead until I was 11. All my early childhood memories are playing on the Flats, in the park, attending Aldersbrook Primary School - which may I now thank Mr. Slaughter (Headmaster extraordinare) Mrs. Morgan (Deputy -very strict, stern but on reflection absolute magic!) Miss Erica Field (darling of the school) Miss Rackham & Miss New (gifted Nativity/Panto creators) etc ........should anyone remember any of the above or me - my maiden name was Catherine Clipsham - please make contact. Yes, Wanstead brings back wonderful memories.

Dear (née) Catherine Clipsham

The following is the result of a search in an idle moment for "Slaughter headmaster Aldersbrook" which led to your posting.
I too was born in the 50s (1953), lived between Wanstead Flats and Park and attended Aldersbrook infants&primary school from autumn 1957 until summer 1964. Being blessed/cursed (depending on events remembered) with near-total recall for most things, my memories range from the near-wonderful to the considerably less than. I've recently found myself often thinking about that period and those places - doubtless due to a lull in work and advancing age (now being as old as my grandfather when I left Aldersbrook CP - which is mildly worrying). Since there is no contact info in your posting - nor any indication of how old it is - I'll leave reminiscence until this message gets a response. And yes, I remember all the names you mention and a few more besides....
