brixton "Identikit" An exhibition of works by Jo Bodley, Anna Courcha, Angie Singh

Private View: 11th of July - 6 pm to 11 pm
Exhibition runs from: 11th of July to 17th of July 2008
Gallery Opening Hours: Sat, Mon, Tues, Wed: 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm
Last day of Exhibition: Thurs 17th of May: 11.00am to 5.00pm

The forthcoming exhibition of works by Jo Bodley, Anna Courcha and Angie Singh expresses an interest in identity and clothing. All three artists approach this issue in various ways, yet portray and address different angles of an age old dialogue between personal identity and its expression through garments as well as the significance of those when separated from the bearer. This exhibition reflects the artists’ need to preserve, represent and transform items of clothing; precious or unimportant items which have recorded and still record social history, within them, they hold the enigma of identity and clothing.

These paintings and constructions are the result of a personal journey from dense, texture rich life studies to the elimination of the personal from the painted surface. The colours used are just that, pigments, with no relevance. All value judgements implied come from the viewer not the artist.

brixton Any odd job men or handymen for SW2

hello,
I have a relatively simple job that needs doing quite quickly so if you know of anyone I'd really appreciate it. The guttering at the front of my house on 1st floor has become blocked and needs clearing as everytime it rains the water is overflowing. Let me know if anyone knows someone good who can get round quickly!

Thanks!

This multimedia series records a glimpse of life in the city (pueblo) of London, touching on a variety of themes from the changing environment to immigration. Pedro’s art aims to allow the viewer to unfold underlining themes whilst sipping on a Rum cocktail. Originally from Miami, Pedro’s laidback exhibits are full of music and fun. Also featuring a few pieces from his previous series "Elements of Utopia"

brixton Monocle Found.

I found the monocle and I used it for a while but it interfered with my eyebrow and it kept falling out.

Also it was not a very good quality monocle.

Therefore I sold it to Cash Converters. They paid me two pounds for it.

brixton Is Brixton getting better?

Hi - We bought our first flat in Balham two years ago. We used to rent in Battersea but we couldn't afford a flat there so we moved to Balham and we literally fell in love with the area. Now we are looking for a house and unfortunately houses in Balham are getting too expensive and we think we could get much more for our money in Brixton but we don't know the area at all and having not head the best things about Brixton we're a bit apprehensive. We're looking at this massive 4 bed house on Holmewood Road but we are not sure if this is a safe area. Could you please let me have your though about it and also about Brixton in general.

Thank you very much.

brixton

The Holmewood part of Brixton that borders Streatham Hill is a nice area. It's quiet and is perfect for getting into and out of town. It's got a real mixture of people too, plenty of families, young professionals, long standing residents.

I lived on Morrish Road which is the road adjacent to Holmewood for many years and loved it. I recently sold up to buy a bigger place in Streatham as I've just recently started a family.

It depends what your looking for in regards to Brixton? Are you looking for a big house and good family facilities because if so I'd recommend looking in Streatham. If it's purely for yourself and your partner...and if your into doing social things then Brixton is the place for you.

To be honest...I'd ignore a lot of the bad press about Brixton, because it's a perfectly normal place.

Hope this helps.
