Have you heard of the National Women's Register? There are groups all over the country, including Merton Park and Wimbledon Park. We meet in each others houses roughly once a month - the evening has a theme or topic. There is also a book group once a month and a walking group. There is no commitment, you can dip in and out as you choose. This site won't let you post links to other web-sites, but you can Google it. In response to the lady looking for a WI - there isn't one in Wimbledon. WI tends to be a rural phenomenon. You would need to go out of town a bit into Surrey - again I'm sure you can Google it. I did read an article a while back which said that WI had been revived in Fulham. Feel free to contact me if you want more information. Not long ago I contacted a Wimbledon knitting group which I found on the internet, only to be told it had folded ages ago. They were also advertising groups in Putney and Clapham (and all over London), but I don't know whether or not they're still going. I can't remember the name of the web-site, but if you google 'knitting groups' I expect you'll find them. If they're struggling to keep going, I imagine they'll welcome all manner of stitchers. Failing that, the local adult education college runs sewing, quilting, embroidery etc. classes - but obviously you have to pay for those.
