West Norwood Saftey first!

Hi - I', thinking of moving the family to West Norwood - but dont really know the area.

I've had a wander around and it seems great! - how are the crime levels? plus how safe is it to wander around at night. My wife often works late so I want to make sure she's safe walking back from the station. The house we are thiniing of buying had CCTV on the doorstep - which made me worry slightly... All feedback welcomed..

West Norwood

I moved here in May and I have had no trouble at all. I've come back late at night on my own a few times (I'm a woman). However, I only do this because the bus-stop is right by my street. But that's nothing to do with West Norwood, I'd be like that anywhere.

I'm in-between West Dulwich and West Norwood stations and I feel better walking from West Dulwich.

Where is your house?

West Norwood Sort of safe.....

You've probably made a decision by now, but I just saw this. Safety in West Norwood has got considerably better since the CCTV cameras were installed - having one by your door is a good thing in terms of crime prevention, not a bad thing! - but I still wouldn't recommend walking back from the station late at night down some of the side roads

West Norwood I live there from 1925 until 1950!

This might sound a bit irrevelant as my West Norwood was in a different era. There were no CCTV cameras (not invented) there was never a policeman to be seen (well, hardly ever) crime was unknown, and children were able to play outside their houses with absolutely no risk whatever. If only a magic wand could be waved!
For those interested in my West Norwood of earlier times, refer to the Virtual Norwood website.

West Norwood

I lived in West Norwood for most of my life, my parents lived there over 30 years. You need to be careful whereabouts you live; certain areas are very unpleasant. From personal experience I saw a decline in cleanliness and services (Lambeth Council are not known for their efficiency).

Yes I know it. That's the other side of W Norwood to me. It's not far from the station but being by the one way street means it will be a bit of a walk from the bus stop that comes in from town (something to think about for the late nights).

I know someone who lives on that road, I'll ask her what it's like...
