West Norwood Living in West Norwood is like..

livning in between a lot of better places. This is actually a good thing though as there are great bus links to Brixton/Clapham/Crystal palace/Herne Hill and the rent is considerably cheaper. I live close to Norwood High St and I recommend that no-one use its restaurants or pubs. They are all bad.

West Norwood not bad

west norwood is ok - trains are fine and only 15 minutes from central london, housing is relatively cheap with access to lovely parks nearby, easy to get to croydon, (IKEA etc) short drive to bromley and other big shopping ares, council services poor but very slowly improving and education very poor (as in the rest of lambeth)- but a few private schools nearby - lots of young families..............

West Norwood West Norwood is definately on the up

During the last six months a lot of positive things have happened in West Norwood including the re-opening of the Old Library which now has a cafe/internet cafe -drop in nursery and Capeiora classes. Although Hollyhocks is no more a nice pancake/cafe/bar "Blairs on the Hill" has opened in its place and seems very friendly with nice food on offer. There is also a lovely shop opposite Lancaster's called Rhythm which has loads of nice things. I have lived here for three years and I think there are definately positive things locally West Norwood Library, South London Theatre etc. As for shopping there are a choice of small to medium supermarkets including the CO-OP and local greengrocers which stock ethnic produce. I think it's great there are good transport links by bus and train into central london and Croydon.

West Norwood West Norwood is great!

I moved to West Norwood 18 months ago as I could not afford to buy property in Balham or Clapham. Since then I think it was the best thing I ever did, so much so that even some of my friends have since moved here too. The pubs are ok, there are enough take aways, shops and restaurants to survive on and it is easy to get to and from on the trains and buses. Central London is only 18 mins on the train to either Victoria or London Bridge and there is also the Thames Link from Tulse Hill station at the other end of the high Street.

West Norwood restaurants all bad

every single one. i've been here ten years and never had a remotely adequate meal anywhere within walking distance. Let's hope that keeps the hoxtonites out, eh?

anyone know what's happening to the co-op?

West Norwood Why is South London Theatre so run down from the outside?

It looks like a squat and is hardly inviting to the local community who may not have been in there before!

West Norwood Whats happened to West Norwood?

I lived in West Norwood for 18months , three years ago. I would have stayed longer, but became increasingly discouraged by the high street and lack of development to the general area. It has so much potential, nice 'looking' residential roads with some fine housing, but that high street is a dump! Lambeth promised regeneration projects 4 years ago. Once the old Lambeth college was demolished just off Knight Hill(behind bus garage) The site was earmarked for new appartmens, Lambeth refused planning permission but agreed to a huge UGLY, yellow storage monstrosity.I'm still confused as to how this has benefitted the area. okay maybe some local jobs, but nothing else positive has happened to West Norwood. I upped sticks and moved to Crystal Palace(best move I made). I still visit West norwood, Lancasters is nice but even the cute fabulous tea shop hollyhocks is now gone which is a real shame! I hope not to offend 'West nowood-ites' as I too, was one, but I just don't like whats happened

West Norwood asian restaurants

I don't know when this message was posted - a new Chinese take away has just opened - perhaps this is you! Apart from this there were already at least 2, maybe more, Chinese takeaways in West Norwood. One of them is a restaurant, although I haven't seen anyone eating inside it. The new one has minimal cafe-type seating. No Thai though, so there could be a niche there.

West Norwood West Norwood: make it there, make it anywhere

I'm playing at Blue Js on Thursday(15 september), with richie Scott and Julia Beil. I hoping it'll be my break into the big time. I've heard Blue Js is the English equivalent of some really cool bar in New York. All the old guard hoxtonites are moving to West Norwood where it's really happening. So check the scene, and get your style surf board to ride the crest of the west Norwood trend wave.

West Norwood Whats happened to West Norwood

West Norwood is a good place to live, not as bad as it looks, and better than most places. There is a lively high street, although it lacks supermarkets and anywhere to go in the evening, but this is mitigated by the friendly nature of the people that use and work in the shops. On top of that, it's easy to get anywhere in South London and North London via Thameslink. There are some nice parks close by too. It's a proper working-class suburb that hasn't been gentrified into some generic ponce-laden place to satisfy incomers who'd rather be living in Clapham but can't afford it. If you want fancy restaurants and nice places to drink, go to East Dulwich. If you want to use the friendliest Apollo video store in Christendom, move to West Norwood.

West Norwood YUP!

Its no Clapham!! And thats no bad thing..

Its certainly improving (from what I hear from the neighbours my street used to be just shy of a war zone). The high st is a bit of a downer, the closed down Jack Stams pub and some crappy shops let it down.. But the cemetary, new church yard, good transport, excellent library and the "statutory mark" of a good area that is an organic deli *cough* are all big positive things..

If only a few more restaurants would open, it could really make the area great!!!
