Post or Ask something here in 'Walworth' WalworthAs a kid back in the early 1950's I lived in Danson Road, at the Braganza Street end of Manor Place. Behind us, opposite Lorrimore Square, there was an old shop with a yard attached called, 'Peplow's.' It seemed to sell everything , but I mostly remember it for hardware. I am trying to put together some memoirs and if anyone can help with info about this shop I would be grateful. Many thanks, Del. We did have a Miss Rogers there, don't know if she would have been any relation. If it helps she was from somewhere 'up north.' The headmaster during my time was Mr. Cleary. He would have been in his fifties at that time and so therefore older than George Rogers. I just wondered what years you refer to. I did try to e-mail you direct, but my computer wouldn't configure. My great-great-grandfather lived at number 43 Darwin Buildings at the turn of the century and his wife and family still lived there in 1911, but in number 16, according to the 1911 census. This part of the Terrace was demolished I think in1964 to make way for a school complex/ School for me was at Beresford road. the school had entrances in the Terrace and Beresford Street Changed to John Ruskin Street many years ago. Our Next door neighbour was named Brown< George was a little older than me, so he would most likely be around 84// Hope you are still around??? At ten years old I then went to Southwark central in Westminster bridge road near the Imperial war museum. Later we moved to Peckham. Mr& Mrs Frances I believe were both disabled and one of the Daveys boys was badly injured by a motorbike accident. He was fascinated by my sports car at the time. He was one of the many who got hit by the Skiffle bug, but it served him well. His father was very strict, and only allowed Alan to buy a guitar on the condition that he practiced regularly. I remember arranging for him to play at a pub in Tooley street when we were in our late teens, and the last I heard of him he was a professional session musician.
