WALWORTH Bonfire night in Iliffe StreetDoes anyone remember big bonfires being built in the middle of the roads. I am sure that I saw a huge bonfire that had been built in the middle of Iliffe Street when I was a little girl but nobody believes me. It would have been late forties or early fifities. Also does anyone remember my Dad Mr. McDonald who was a teacher at the Nelson school round about that time. The headmistress was a lady called Miss Byron. Post reply -->London WALWORTH 6 Nov Should we remove this post ? ^ WALWORTHCan't recall bonfires in the middle of the road, but many were built on the bomb sites for firework night. I started at Nelson School in 1959 and my first teacher was a Mr McDonald, quite possibly your father. He left in around 1960 if I remember correctly. He was a tall, slim chap. Having said that, most adults appear tall when you're eleven years old. WALWORTH HUGMAN FISHMONGERSMy mother Brenda Jordan (Nee Holloway) is currently trying to trace back her family tree. Her Mother was Ellen Mary Hugman, she married Bert Holloway (Albert). She is the daughter of George Thomas Hugman born about 1889 and Alice Rosina born about 1880. We so far have managed to go back three generation's although at the moment we need to clarify these are correct. (Benjamin Hugman Born about 1860 (who also comes up as John Benjamin Kent) and also William Hugman Born about 1822). We have some photos and other bits and peices but wondered if there was anyone out there that knew anymore information regarding them. my e mail address Mail-me Post reply -->London WALWORTH Mandie Jordan 8 Oct Should we remove this post ? ^ WALWORTHhi brenda my greatgrandad was ben hugman.i know kent was added at some time,my uncle&cousins middle name is kent.my lot had fish stalls down east st. There Mum, Violet worked on the greengrocers stall in Westmorland Road, outside the Wool Shop (top end), there Dad died and then their Mum in about 1963, the children were sent to live with a relative in Kent, I think.
