I was mugged by 3 youths in Palace Road, one Saturday evening, about years ago, who ran off with my handbag containing front door keys, wallet, etc. Finally got the bag back (minus valuables) 6 months later when it was found in some lock-up garages on the estate. Palace Road is a lovely road but the beginning part of it near Streatham Hill is quite isolated with no traffic , and large grass verges, so if somebody's walking behind you or coming towards you, you're a bit stuck if they want to rob you. So, just be careful and streetwise, better to walk along Christchurch Road where there's plenty of other people.

Has anyone around the Palace Road area been kept awake by a weird generator noise in the last month or so? I think it might be coming from night work on the railway or building work, but it is driving me mad.

I think things in Tulse are improving, people friendly, Brockwell Park and Lido on doorstep and fab travel in2 town. Could do with a larger supermarket though, Somerfield is not enough, if only they could say please and thanks. The railway pub hip n cool, The Tulse Hill Tavern more traditional, but my local!!
As with anywhere in London, it does have the occasionl crime problem but have you seen how many CCTV cameras are around, more than the BBC.

Dont be put off by negative comments, thinking of moving to the area? do! With the development of property and shops on Norwood High St things can only improve!

Tulse Hill 24 hours from Tulsa hill

What are they building on Norwood High St anyway?

I've just moved to the area and all good so far. Though why can't the Railway take cards when there's no free cash machine around (spent £1 for cash back at Somerfield is the best option).
Supermarket is not the biggest but v convenient for a pint of milk on way home, and there's way more than you'd think at W Norwood shops like Barclays, Natwest, Superdrug, Co-Op, DVD rental place, even random stuff like fishmongers... Nice. Prob wouldn't want to live over it though.

There's decent sports clubs in the area for Rugby, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Athletics, though I'm not sure where the nearest gym is. Any ideas?

I WAS BORN AND BRED IN TULSE HILL 65YEARS AGO.IT WAS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE WITH BROCKWELL PARK JUST DOWN THE ROAD AND I REMEMBER THE FIRST SUPERMARKET OPENING NEXT TO THE OLD CHURCH ON THE CORNER OF CHRISTCHURCH ROAD[ I BELEIVE IT WAS PULLED DOWN YEARS AGO]MOVED TO THE COUNTRY EARLY 1963 BET THINGS HAVE CHANGED.LOVE TO HEAR FROM SOMEBODY IN PERRAN ROAD.

Holmes place in Streatham or get the no 2 bus into Brixton and there is Fitness First or the Brixton Recreation centre has great classes and quite cheap membership if you can bear the groups of kids loitering and get past the bouncers guarding your gym! Dulwich Leisure Centre in E Dulwich is also v good only a few mins on the train or a quick drive away...

Tulse Hill Supermarkets

There's the Somerfield opposite Tulse Hill station, just a bit further towards West Norwood there's another Somerfield (why?) a Co-Op, and Iceland.

there's also a massive safeway/morrison's on westow hill in crystal palace (direct bus from norwood rd).

tesco express at the garage on tulse hill itself (en route to brixton).
