Built in 1880, it was once a huge house which has since been split into 3 separate dwellings. Sometimes there is trouble in Thronton Heath but usually its just 14-17yr old children looking for some cheap frills. Its not like gangs are exclusive in Thronton heath. If you are sensible and have a bit of street sense you would know how to stay out of trouble. i.e not walking around at night by yourself. esp women. flashing your goods, ie mobiles. Anyway to answer your question... Thronton heath can be scary but scarier than West Croydon? Nah... Post reply -->London Thornton Heath Mr Shane Conte 22 Oct ^ Thornton Heaththe heath, as i like to call it, is much less scary than west croydon, which is not actually that scary. just try and look confident and streetwise (head up, aware of surroundings but not in utterly paranoid manner!) and eventually this will rub off on u and u will be both these things and u will never have to feel that the heath, or any other place, is scary. bex Mail-me Post reply -->London Thornton Heath bex 30 Mar ^ Thornton Heath ItI've lived here for 11 yrs. There are "settlers" here rubbing shoulders with each other, some are just transients and couldn't care less. It can be pretty intense on the streets and of late we've had some major incidents here. I'm a single father of a 6 yr old boy, I run a local business and want to keep my home town tidy and trouble free. In that position I've purposely befriended a lot of the local youths who feel free to knock on my door for a chat. It's not been easy and I've had to "talk hard lines" with some of them. I've gotten respect through my endevours and am happy to report that we can walk the street without fear and say hi to most. I've found the people here and their children to be fine on the whole. All in all West Croydon is like any city atmosphere whereas Thornton Heath carries that feel to a degree but it is more residential. Violence is less obvious and usually targeted and personal.
