generally its a lively nice place to live ok its not chelsea but hey do you really want to live in fullam? maybe you do but then again maybe you dont! it can feel a bit rough if your not used to living in a mixed community but on the whole its pretty reasonable and fairly rewarding in many ways...only 1 way 2 find out!

Have lived here about 6 years and love it. Yes, it's pretty grotty, but there's such a great mix of people. That's the best thing about it. It's so multicultural you can get hold of many weird and wonderful things in a huge variety of shops. There are plenty of good affordable restaurants, a couple of half-decent bars. Clapham, Balham and Brixton are very close by. Despite there being no tube the transport is good. There are 3 train stations and about 20 bus routes. The best thing about it is its affordable and unpretentious, unlike many parts of london.

Been in Streatham now two years and am really happy here. I like the fact that it's a mixed community with no attitude at all. People on the whole I've found are very frindly and there are some real pockets of community spirit. Some real gems to be found in the area but take a bit of exploring; for example K&J garage on Sunnyhill Road - great father and son operation who are SO decent and honest it's unbelievable. Then of course there's the lovely Colleen on Sunnyhill as well who does beautiful flowers, the bread from the turkish bakery just on the left as you go into "The Dip", and the French Deli down the far end of Sunnyhill. For a nice drink out try The Waterfront off Streatham Common - Pizzas to die for and a great atmosphere, and you cannot beat The Earl Ferrers on Ferrers Avenue (behind the Bus Depot). The Earl is like having a pub in your front room - highly recommend for a chilled night out. Streatham's great, it just takes looking beyond her somewhat faded exterior.

Streatham streatham to victoria??  

hi,
i'm moving to streatham next week and was wondering whether there is a direct bus to victoria from the high st, and if anyone knows how long it takes. cheers

Streatham Streatham to Victoria  

No direct bus - but there are loads of buses into Brixton (59, 109, 133, 250, 333 at least), from there you can get the no. 2 which runs about every 5 minutes. You can also get the Victoria Line from Brixton to Victoria. Finally, you can also get direct trains from both Streatham Hill and Streatham Common stations into Victoria.

Streatham Ta very much- streatham is brilliant!!  

ta very much- that was extremely useful info, now that i am here in streatham hill and have the internet back to reply i can honestly say this is one of the best parts of london i have lived in- great value for money, great amenities and a great community- v glad it was the only place i could afford a big garden flat :)

I have found the trains fine- am loving that it only takes me 25 mins to get to work in victoria!
