Post or Ask something here in 'Stamford Hill' Stamford Hill Stamford HillDoes anyone remrmber a lady who used to walk around the Hill wearing a rain coat & motor cycle goggles? She would often mumble to herself. This was in the early 60s. I lived on Leadale Road & went to Craven Park school then to Brooke House. I remember most of the places mentioned & am still an avid Spurs supporter. What great days those were. Anyone from my time, be good to hear from you. My name's Dave. Yes they were good times at the club but I would not change them for the times I have now,in my very late 60s.We all tend to look back and see those days with rose coloured glasses but the reality is, that apart from the evenings at the club they were very hard times and best kept for pleasant memories. I was born and bred here. 101 Wargrave Avenue - and went to school at Crowland Road. Discovered the "Hill" when I was 15 - 1951 - and made very many friends..including little Moishe...Harry Lee...Henry Sellers... Mitch...Butch...Maurice Spiro. My two closest buddies were Lennie Duke and Keith Martin..We would go every MOnday evening to the Downbeat jazz club - and each week to the West End..Empire Rooms, etc. Loved the E&A bar...The REgent and Super Cinemas...and if I'm not wrong one ofthe first coffee bars opened there - almost opposite the Regent. So many happy, happy memories...strolls in Springfield Park (particularly during the Jewish holidays)..walks to Clapton Common (looking for a "mate")...down to Stoke Newington to meet up with other pals. Oh why have those days vanished! Now..I've been married 48 years with two kids of 38 and 41 respectively and, now two grandchildren. Happy days. Glad to "chat" wi Post reply -->London Stamford Hill michaeldennis@btconnect.com 2 Mar ^ Stamford HillHello there, Lovely to read your text :-) Have you always been living in Stamford Hill? Moved to Palmers Green and then - just 5 years ago - to Enfield. Which is where I now live. "The Hill" was wonderful during the fifties. User-friendly. A kind of cameraderie that simply doesn't appear to exist today. The memories - and there are hundreds of them - will live with me for the rest of my life.
