I am also an ex-pat living somewhere abroad and yes, one has the pool, the servants (that is, a cook, a driver, a fully uniformed domestic and a laundry man who fails to keep my whites white!!) and the total life style but my mind is apt at times to roam or reminisce about the past to the point that I can’t help but use the net to see what is happening in my former area and sometimes take part in discussions such as these, pretending that I’m still living in the area! I go back to my ‘roots’ yearly and sometimes I am dismayed by what I see like going to familiar roads and seeing rubbish in the same places – yearly!! (It is almost as if the council arranges this because they know I’m coming!) But I am also astounded by the amount of changes that have taken place not just in my area but also in London, and it is clear that it is for the best. So Martin, being a Brit and abroad, to quote an old maxim – you can’t have your cake and eat it. It would be good if we could bring some aspect of the UK to where we are and if we are ‘living the life’ you cannot take it to the UK . I am happy that I can regularly visit the UK so that I don't have to reminisce too much but I enjoy where I am. I use to run quite regulary, but since i moved to to london 6 month ago i have found it difficult to motivate myself, also i don't find it particularly safe to run on my own.
