Nunhead Wrong side of Nunhead?I am moving from East Dulwich to Nunhead but I understand that all the life is happening on Nunhead Lane or Evelina Road, while I will be in Borland Road... Apart from the Ivy House, is there anything else around there? I noticed all the shops on Cheltentham Rd that were closed over the weekend, seem to be shut also during the week. Not a chemist neither? I really like the flat and being near the park but need some advice also on safety in that particular area. Did I choose the wrong side of Nunhead? Mail-me Post reply -->London Nunhead kaparte 18 Aug Should we remove this post ? ^ NunheadNo you haven't chosen the wrong side - its nice and quiet in Borland Rd. There were loads of "local" shops in Cheltenham Rd, including a post office, a green grocers and a butchers, a dairy ... but everyone headed off to sainsburys and they closed. If you want shops, pubs, etc ... perhaps forest hill rd is nearer. Evelina Rd used to be really great 30 years ago ... there was a laundry, a nicer bakers, 2 greengrocers, an offlicence, a petshop, a cobblers, a recordshop, a tea rooms, an aquarium shop, antiques centre, clock shop, photographers, an optician, gift shop ... etc. To add to the village feel .. there was also an old horsetrough that the council removed and replaced with an ugly recycling bank. Nunhead Station Court, Gibbon Road, NunheadJust curious - is the old apartment building showing on Google Satellite map as Station Court, Gibbon Road right by the Nunhead Station still there or has it been redeveloped into nice homes? If it has been demolished and rebuilt with nice homes at its site, does anyone know how long ago the redevelopment was? I am just curious how out-dated those Google Satellite Maps are. Post reply -->London Nunhead 6 Aug Should we remove this post ? ^ NunheadNunhead 1c,1 and 1 A Ivydale RoadI walk passed these houses every day on my way to get the train - And I just dont understand why these houses are numbererd this way. They all appear to be single dwelling houses. Though the large one on the end looks newer. But then when I look at 1 and 1A they also look a bit different from the rest of the houses on the road. So -can anyone tell me why? its soooo bugging me!!! and I just cannot find any info on the internet. Thanks Post reply -->London Nunhead 3 Aug Should we remove this post ? ^ NunheadThe newest looking one is the latest addition to the street. The other two were added to the street on spare land after number one was built! Hence they had to have a number that related to their position in the road. We have a new house in our street number 30a because it was on land between 30 and 31! Post reply -->London Nunhead 5 Aug Should we remove this post ? |
