I am not sure of the dates, but I think we arrived about 1950. Some one told me this was the film site for the recent Call The Midwife TV series, and that its now called St Josephs? I can recall the concrete steps leading down into the play area, but I cant really remember much more, except that the nuns were quite strict, but always kind and fair. Mill Hill Seeking Alan JohnsonI have been trying to locate the last missing piece of my family tree....My father-in-law recently passed away and his name was Kevin John Johnson both he and his brother the above named Alan were orphans. Alan was born in 1942 and was admitted to St Vincent's Mill Hill in 1947. He had spend his early years at St Mary's Convent, Walthamstowe in the Nursery. He stayed at St Vincent's until he was 11 years old until 1953 and transferred to St Charles Orphanage, Brentford. His mother was Maud Johnson I am hoping that Alan or anyone who knows of Alan reads this and gets in touch with me...Alan you have two sisters, Freda who is 80 years old and Mary who is 86....time is definately running out...so I hope someone who can help comes forwards. If you were in St Vincent's at the time and knew of Alan Johnson or of both Brothers at St Charles please do do get in touch. If this is the same Alan Johnson , a marvelous story of a family reunion has happened and details can be sent if you are not aware of them . After St Charles Brenford , Alan arrived at St Mary's Gravesend and has been in contact with Delvin John Flynn another former resident there . Mill Hill St Vincents 1935Hi, my name is Tracie Loveridge and i am desperately trying to find any records for my dad who was at this orphanage in 1935, unclear for how long, he was about 3 and had a brother who was about 2, their names were Derek and David (Dave) Avenell. My dad is very very poorly and as the only family history i have is his mothers name, no father or her date of birth etc ANY information i can gain from ANY records would be a fantastic final chapter in my dear dad's life. If anyone either remembers my dad Derek or knows where i might find some records i would be soooo grateful! Thanks Mail-me Post reply -->London Mill Hill Tracie Loveridge nee Avenell 2 Sep Should we remove this post ? ^ Mill HillHello Tracie . Did you know you may be able to get information from Cabrini Purley Surrey . They took over from the Catholic Rescue Society and may have records of your Dad being at St Vincents . You will have to supply proper evidence of who you say you are and your relationship . St Vincent nuns also had involvements with St Mary's Gravesend Kent . Anyone reading this the group are looking for any photos or writing of that huge building which was pulled down in about 1971 and became a......... housing development . :) St Mary's Gravesend was formerly known as Milton Mount College for girls - well young ladies - middle class . Not much of a place really. If you want to live in a safe area, lovely community and have some small shops on your doorstep then why not try Woodside Park (not the Finchley side)simply catch the 221 bus opposite Mill Hill East Station and it runs through Woodside Park and you will see for yourself how lovely it is. In fact 9 out of 10 people who move there stay for good. Let me know what you think of it. Post reply -->London Mill Hill Sally 30 Jun Should we remove this post ? I was there in the early to mid 1960's along with my brother. We spent about 18 months there. We also had a visit from the Blue Peter presenters of the day and appered on said programme. I have a photo of some of us just after we took first holy communion so i must of been about seven. The shelves were half empty, evidently they were short supplied last night. If the current management team are unable to run this store efficiently i.e. have sufficient numbers of check out staff available, then I suggest Waitrose gets rid of them all and starts all over again.
