Mile End PLEASE HELPIn about a month I will be moving to Mile End from the USA to study at the University of Arts London. A few nights ago I ran into a british boy and I was asking him all sorts of questions about Mile End (since I know nothing.) He told me that it's "dodgey"(?) and that I don't want to live there. But you'll get that anywhere in London these days However during the day its a little nicer Post reply -->London Mile End Mike 30 Aug Should we remove this post ? ^ Mile End mile end is safeTower hamlets is one of the safest borough in london, it has a very good history compared to other boroughs in the east end. calling it dodgey(someone or somewhere you should try to dodge) is a bit harsh. you will find out soon enough that the locals are very friendly and that the area is a very multi cultural community. especially the shop keepers, talk to them and they will welcome you the next time. so I dont think you have anything to be worried about. you know if your in mile end you will experience the real london. and for this british boy, well what do boys know eh!  | ^ Mile End Its okI've been living there for nearly 3 years & I've never had any trouble. There is a tube and several buses - two 24 hour buses pass. There are shops open late & it's always busy so it doesn't feel too scary coming home late at night. Just be aware & behave sensibly in the same way as u would in any urban area. It's absolutely fine during the day. The residents are a mix of students, middle class professionals and working class white and bengali people with a minority of other ethnic groups. Most people seem ok. I get on fine with my neighbours. Local shopkeepers are friendly & helpful. I've never had any problems living there, there are lots of shops and it's very easy to get to Canary Wharf, the City and the West End. The area is also well lit. The canal & park is great & you must visit the Palm Tree pub it's brilliant. The Morgan Arms is good too. They are building a new swimming pool/ sports centre in January too so there's plenty of things to do in the local area. I would not rely on it...To close to a junky place of London. My employee was seriously beaten there - his vehicle trashed and his vitness ( a girl) scared veeery badly...
