Post or Ask something here in 'Leytonstone' Leytonstone Smith Family of Dyers Hall RoadDoes anyone remember Dyers Hall Road about 1955-1960, before most of it was knocked down. My Great Aunt lived there and I used to visit her quite often then. Her real name was Mary Ann Alice Smith, but we all called her Aunt Doll. I would go into her back garden and look across a piece of ground to watch the underground trains going past. I can't remember the number of her house but it was on the 'underground' side of the road and you could almost, but not quite, see the British Railway bridge from her front door. I am trying to trace any of her three children: Henry (called Harry) Lillian and Edie. But with a surname of Smith it is not any easy task. I live in France now but would dearly love to make contact with any of the Smith family. If anyone knows anything about these people could you please ask them to contact me at Mail-me Many thanks. I was secretary of the YCND in the 60's, sold Sanity (CND's newpaper) outside the banks near Bearmans's and went on a few Aldermaston Marches. I remember for the Leytonstone Carnival we had a float decorated with a large white flowered CND sign with doves around it. It caused quite a stir and we won a prize. It was designed by Bob Garden who was secretary of the CND branch. I recall have to repeatedly having to push start the lorry. Many of the people involved with CND were members of the Labour Party or the Y.S.L. I would be interested in if any body remebers. The venue is minutes from the South Woodford underground station. We'll be reading books at least 50 years old - after all the best endure, and sometimes it's interesting to read a book a bit different from what's on the bestsellers list. BTW this is in no way intending to be intellectual or elitist. The idea is to meet on the 1st Sunday morning of every month at 11 for chat about the book and life the universe and everything over a coffee/ drink/ brunch/ whatever.
