Leytonstone Leyton And Leytostone YCND and CND

Is there anyone that was a a member of either the YCND or CND for Leyton and Leytonstone.?

I was secretary of the YCND in the 60's, sold Sanity (CND's newpaper) outside the banks near Bearmans's and went on a few Aldermaston Marches.

I remember for the Leytonstone Carnival we had a float decorated with a large white flowered CND sign with doves around it. It caused quite a stir and we won a prize. It was designed by Bob Garden who was secretary of the CND branch.

I recall have to repeatedly having to push start the lorry.

Many of the people involved with CND were members of the Labour Party or the Y.S.L.

I would be interested in if any body remebers.

Leytonstone Help!! Looking for safe storage for my drums! :)

Can anyone help me please?
I am looking for affordable and safe storage of my Drums which would take up about 1m (width) x 3m (length) of space.
I would need weekly or monthly access as I run community classes.

I am very respectable and would keep this area locked and clean at all times!

Please do contact me if you can help!

 Mail-me

Many thanks,

Liz

Leytonstone - New Book Club Starting in South Woodford

We'll meet in a venue in George Lane minutes from the tube station, on the 1st Monday of every month at 7:00pm to talk about the book of the month and engage in a bit of social chit-chat over a coffee/wine/pint/bite.

The 1st meeting will have to be on the 2nd Monday of October, the 12th (because I have a previous commitment on the 1st Monday.) The first meeting is just for a bit of "getting to know each other" plus we'll be choosing the books for the first few months.

For more information  Mail-me

Leytonstone : Classics Book Club London East

Hoping to form a club with a friendly local feel. The venue is minutes from the South Woodford underground station.

We'll be reading books at least 50 years old - after all the best endure, and sometimes it's interesting to read a book a bit different from what's on the bestsellers list. BTW this is in no way intending to be intellectual or elitist.

The idea is to meet on the 1st Sunday morning of every month at 11 for chat about the book and life the universe and everything over a coffee/ drink/ brunch/ whatever. I have a regular venue in mind (near tube, roomy, cheapish, hopefully not noisy.)

Leytonstone Eel Shop Leytonstone

Yes I remember it well; it was near the Bell Bakeries opposite the Police and Fire Station.

I used to be fascinated by the wriggling after being cut up. It seems to be a boy's thing.

I too like Pie and MAsh and used to go to the one in Harrow Green, but the best is still in High Street Walthamstow whihe has tiles with cows graziing. There is on in Wood Street and at Walton on the Naze but there you can have it with wine which is beside the point.  Mail-me

!927 Beechcroft Road I was born. At the High Road end was Coombes Brother Pawnbrokers, round the corner was a butchers with an abattoir at the back. Every now and then cattle from Wanstead Flats used to be driven along my road on the way to being a Sunday Roast. Opposite was "Evans" a forerunner of the Supermarket but only for groceries and dairy produce. A little way along toward the Green Man pub was the Fire Station and a Blacksmith. A lot of local delivery traffic such as Nevilles Bakery and the coal man was horsedrawn. Street buskers were not uncommon; my favourite was a married couple, the wife played a barrel organ while her husband played the spoons. Davies Lane Infants; Cann Hall Juniors then Leyton County High. Montague Mission Sunday School. Well remember the Rialto, mentioned in a previous post, and the "Rialto Rangers" Our secret 'password' was 'Regnar' And our motto was "Serve and always wear a smile." I once won the weekly prize for having the biggest smile in
