Mr. Massara was there in my first year at Cormont Road......but then we had to go to the annex in John Ruskin Street or as it was offficially listed as being in 'Bethwin Road'.....He taught French and I still remember being able to say, "La sel de classe"... hahaha Post reply -->London Kennington romano barca 14 Jul Should we remove this post ? ^ Kennington Kennington County Secondary Boys SchoolHi there I went to Kennington at the same time as you. I was in class 1A, 2A,3A,4A etc. My tutor in 1A was Mr Hayley the history teacher. My favourite teacher of all was Mr Oliver the woodwork teacher. Mr Gloster was my P.E. teacher and Mr Lovell was my French teacher. Mr Adamson was the deputy head. I know that he later went to live in New Zealand. I would love to hear from you and anyone else who went there at the time. I remember guys like Tony Burns, Bill Smith, Jimmy Richardson, Patrick Duffy, Anthony Dolan, Wally Ford etc. Mail-me Post reply -->London Kennington Seymour Young 3 Nov Should we remove this post ? ^ KenningtonDo you remember mr Guthrie at kennington secondary,a real gentleman. Mike Post reply -->London Kennington 14 May Should we remove this post ? ^ Kennington Hi Seymour YoungWell' well Seymour I remember you very well indead. You went to the same primary school as me also and we both moved to different areas and primary schools. Then we ended up at Kenn sec in the same class and they actually sat us together. The primary school we attended was Jessop road. We used to visit each others homes. Are you still in London? I'm in Llanduno now. Post reply -->London Kennington Jim Richardson 4 Nov Should we remove this post ? ^ Kennington romanobarca@googlemail.comHi.........I remember Mr Oliver, the woodwork teacher and quite frankly the man was an animal and should have been dismissed for child brutality......I recollect how he decided to can me across 'my back' with my elbows sticking out so his can caught those..........Not a nice man !!! I don't remember a Mr. Hayley but remember Mr Beach who was head of our first year in Cormont Road........Another 'can freak!' - Yet again, Mr. Glouster was much the same kind of animal........canning kids for practically 'nothing!'.........Not sure about Mr Lovell.......I think he was a small man in the woodwork shop who never resorted to 'violence'..........Glouster eventually became deputy head of the school??? Post reply -->London Kennington romano barca 14 Jul Should we remove this post ? ^ KenningtonHi.I also went to Kennington Sec. 1951 -1955. Also have good memories of Our History teacher Mr Hayley. I vividly recall him telling us that King George vi had died, and watching his face when there was spontaneous laughter from a majority of the class. He threatened to cane the lot of us. Good teacher though, as was many of the others including Mr Goodwin,Mr Oliver, I thought that Mr Gloster was a bit strange!! 007 Roger Moore also went to the same school, a few years earlier. I used to visit mt Gran in the late 1960s and loved going in this sweet shop. Always called Nell's. Also Bishops Park, as a little girl my Gran would take me and we would have a go at the pitch and put as well as the swings. I wondered if it was still there, have'nt visited for years. This is the stuff that memories are made of. Post reply -->London Kennington AngelaBeeton7@aol.com 12 Apr Should we remove this post ? I wonder, can the areas like "Braganza st" or "Westcott rd" be considered as a safe place to live? It's quite close to the tube station and it seems to be very quiet there... But who knows?. There are lovely restaurants and pubs, but stay in the Kennington area, not the Walworth Road, as there is nothing nice there, other than M&S!
