i also went to keyworth at this time and remember miss hunt also miss armstrong who wore a leather wrist band saying this is why they call me armstrong, miss luxe, pop feland and being able to ring the bell in assembly when it was your birthday, the into the juniors mr binden,mr downing, the xmas plays and shows where my i hasten to add i played the accordion.one winter when it was snowing we used to make slides in the snow in the playground i ended up falling over and was rushed to brook street hospital with concussion for a week, the school said a preyer for my recovery and sent me a box of chocolates.i also remember jacks penny ices outside manor place baths after swimming but we used to call him dew drop as he always had one on the end of his nose, happy days,i wouldn't swap those beautiful childhood days for anything, and genuine lovely people of that time,so many happy memories i could go for ever.

i have just found this site and i thought i may be able to bring back some memories of people and places in kennington where i was bought up as a young lad.born in 1942 i played like many others in the bombed houses in the lambeth walk area,i lived in wedgewood house, with my parents, margret and joe robertson and myself david, and sisters Joan Maureen and Pamela, the fish and chip shop in the then china walk was the greengate fisheries i believe,as you went and along into lambeth walk there was a sweet shop called berts, then the old bombed out baths, next to the entrance to wedgewood house on the right was a few shops,a snobs, amy sands green grocers who also had another shop further down the walk, the walk forked off to the left,to the right was clarence place also all bombed buildings which led to where a passport to pimlico was filmed. The houses still standing on the left were all terraced, right up to the pub The French Horn, still standing i believe this was on the corner of where i first

I would use any information given in a talk as The Museum is having an open day soon, so please only contact me if you are happy for your information to be used.

I look forward to receiving your stories, thank you in advance.

Kennington Does anyone remember?

We lived at No 2 Paisley Road, my Mother was a Massaro. My Greatgrandfather was known locally as Jack but was an Italian who sold ice cream from a barrow around Manor Place etc. I loved Morris's Sweet Shop on Manor Place. He was the nicest person and I often wondered whatever became of him. My sister was Maureen Massaro and we are related to the Johnsons and Harmers of East Lane. I started school at Keyworth in 1956. Did anyone else? Am seeking my cousin Rosa Wilkinson - last heard of in Peckham - would be about 61 now.

Kennington Paisley Road boy

Hi,
I was born in No 1 Paisley Road in 1952. We moved to Marsland Rd soon after when I was about 3. I went to St Paul's School. Didn't like it there and was moved to Keyworth. I remember Jack the Ice Cream man. I loved the Pink water ice he sold. I can still remember the shops in Manor Place Terrace; Morrish's sweet shop, Yabsley's the boot mender, Fudge's the Chemist and Mr Jones who ran the diary. I can also remember Carter's the newsagents. I go back now and then for Pie and Mash and a sarsaparilla in Baldwins. Happy days.

Micky
We were obviously at the same School at, I would guess, the same time. Tanners, Teddy Bell and Charlie White certainly sound familiar. Mrs Edwards sounds familiar but I seem to think of her as a Music teacher rather than Head. I do remember a Miss Donna probably the reception Class, around 1953, she has left a lasting impression on me and I am now 63. The name is Michael Coumas and lived in Brutus Court from the time it was built (1956 I think) until 1971/2 and mother finaly vacated totally in 2009 following my father passing away in 2008.

Kennington Michael Coumas, I remember you

Hi Michael, it's Charlie Richardson here, you'd probably remember my big brother, Jim Richardson, better. We lived in Dumain Court, just next to Brutus. Couple of things I remember ... one was when you climbed up on top of the advertising hoarding by Dante Road, trod on a rusty nail up there that went right into your foot and couldn't get down. I had to get the copper who directed traffic at Newington Butts to climb up and carry you down! And ... dunno if you want to be reminded of this, but I believe that you found a kid floating dead in the pool at Bedlam Park. You can write to me at  Mail-me  if you like. I'll tell Jim I've seen you on here. Also, you could have a look at the Facebook page, Kennington SE11. There's also pages for Walworth, Elephant and Castle, Camberwell, Lambeth Walk etc.

Kennington St Philips School Kennington

I went to St Philips School in the 30s, I have fond memories of my time there .The half day holiday we got on Empire day and the little straw crosses we made at Easter. I also recall the Scottish family who were ships engineers. I recall their son a giant of a lad strolling about in his kilt. The Ideal Cinema and the little old lady in her black shawl selling peanuts and wine gums. Hard times but we had stability
