Catford looking to know the area more .

We have just bought a house in the conservation area ,on culverley road.
we heard that the house were edwardian villas, and when first built they had a name . Does anyone knows how to find out?
Also we have a huge garden which is in need of some tlc does anyone know a very good reliable gardener ?
One more thing , where do you go for food shopping ?is there a farmer"s market around.

Hello, if you're still looking for a Martial Arts Club near you, I can recommend Shaolin Culture. My son has been going there for 6 years and loves it. Child friendly and great for adults to, I do Tai Chi, my son does Shaolin Kung Fu.

Catford the prince henry pub

hi just looking for some info, i used to live in catford in 1987 to 1990 and lived in ruthven rd, i used to work in the prince henry pub and i have to say it was the most enjoyable time of my life!! the people who owned it then were richard and cathy ( cant remember there last names tho) and there was paul the bar manager and then me, does anyone know were paul went to as from what i remember he was taking up another post in another put up north? grateful for any info on these and why the pub closed. cheers Mail-me

Catford New Flats & Shops

The new flats under construction on Rushey Green in Catford next to Lewisham Job Centre are having shops or a shop underneath them. One rumour is that it is going to be a Tesco Express Store. Does anyone know if this is true. We could certainly do with it at this end of Catford since Sainsburys closed their Sainsburys Local Store at the Shell Petrol Garage.

Hi,
It seems you have partly answered your own question. The old St Lawrences church stood in Catford Broadway on the opposite corner to the Catford Theatre it was built in 1887 and sadly demolished in 1968 to make way for a car park of all things! The church was a prominent landmark and if you were travelling by bus you asked the conductor for 'st lawrences' they all knew what you meant. There is a small church in Bromley road of the same name, built as a replacement. pictures are available on Flickr although I was unable to provide a link. Hpoe this helps.

Catford Party Venues for hire in Catford?

Hi there, does anyone know of a reasonably priced venue for hire, for 16 yr old birthday party, on a Saturday night? Ideally would like venue to be available until 2am, but 1am would be ok..able to bring own food, drink and music. If anyone does know anything in Catford - or even Bromley, Forest Hill, Brockley, or Sydenham, would be really grateful for info, thanks.

Catford Regeration???

There should be a limit put on certain types of shops ie betting shops/fast food chicken shops/pawn shops/pound shops/funeral shops etc -how about 2 of each max(in fact no 1 of each max would be better still)-I guess this has been thought of before,how about different rates for different types of shops,ie Pizza Express(not that they would want to invest in Catford as it is),Marks &Spencers/art shops etc wouldn't pay hardly anything but a pound shop/fast food shop etc pays the top band-Also the shops' signage should be attractive to look at. By the way does anyone know how many of the town planners live in Catford?

Catford New Restaurant

Any noticed/been into the new restaurant that has opened up where Yamas used to be (next to Riva, by the old cinema).

Nice to see someone investing in the area, looks very nice inside (Lewisham council take note).

I was almost hoping it would be a decent bar (or bar/restaurant), but it's better than another pound shop, betting shop or another bad pub to add to the collection.
