Ideally, we'd meet once a month and the club's members would choose books to read. Personally, I'm open to all sorts of books, but I guess the type of books might be something to be decided if we can reach critical mass. The number of members is a tricky one. Again, something to decide later perhaps. At the moment I'm experimenting with Google groups. If you're interested in joining the book club, post a message to the E2 book club group and I'll invite you to be a member. The email to post to is: Mail-me Hope we can get something going! Post reply -->London Bethnal Green Julian & Phil 15 Apr ^ Bethnal GreenI am an old Bethnal greener and I recall a cycle repair shop in Cambridge Heath Road in the 50s. I used to get my bike repaired there. The one I remember was quite near a cafe called Charlies which was on the corner of a street named Poyser Street. at the Old Ford Road end of Cambridge Heath Road. As I recall the owner was named Atkins. I don't know if there were more than one cycle repair shop in the Road but I hope this information is useful. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of the shop but you might like to try this web site of old old Bethnal Green Photos. http://website.lineone.net/~ken_goldfinch/ Post reply -->London Bethnal Green 13 Apr Bethnal Green Local Cumminty Theatre or Acting classes?I live in Bethnal green and was wondering if there was any local community theater groups, etc. or actign classes. Please let me know if you've had direct experience of somebody's work or yourself heard a reliable recommendation from somebody else. Cheers. Post reply -->London Bethnal Green Steve 9 Oct Bethnal Green Food and Saftey in BGIve spotted a nice place online in BG. Think I would like to live there. The place is right beside the tube. Two questions. Any decent shops/green grocers/fish mongers in the vicinity or do you need to travel to buy good quality food? Is it a safe place to live? Would you worry about using the tube or walking home at night? Do the pubs get a bit rowdy? ... I believe it is the setting for most of the Lou and Andy sketches, and all in all from the pictures Ive seen, it looks like it might be a bit of a socially deprived area. Is that unfair? Thanks. Post reply -->London Bethnal Green Alan 2 Oct ^ Bethnal Greenthere's a big tesco near bg tube and even bigger sainsbury's near whitechapel tube. smaller shops are the usual cornershops and same as everywhere else. Post reply -->London Bethnal Green ji 14 Oct ^ Bethnal Green Bethnal Green is Lovely!!It's great in BG. I live on an estate behind the tube and in 8 years have never felt afraid or hassled. True, it's a 'deprived' area in many respects, but that's what gives it miles more character and true style than many other areas. I would tell you about the fab fruit and veg stalls locally that are so cheap and fresh they'd give Borough market the runanaround, and the great turkish and deli style shops, but then all kinds of snooty folks might muscle in and spoil the vibe!
