BecktonLike any other place, there are nice places in Beckton and not so nice places. The "not nice places" are more due to anti social behaviour rather than ugly buildings or whatever.  | Beckton Thinking of moving to BecktonHi, I am a 60 year old widower who would like to move to London (where my roots were) I stayed in Newham last year and it appears ideal, but, is there a mixed age community? local shops, medical facilities etc? I would be looking for a nice apartment and although 60 ,fit and active !! I live in Devon at the moment. I will visit again in March I hope. Any advise appreciated. Newham is a great place to live, and Beckton being in newham is pretty cool too. Nice community, shops and good transport links. The only thing no one is mentioning which is the main reason I have never moved there is the unbelievable stench the sewage works throws up on a regular basis. It's eye wateringly horrendous and smothers the area in a suffocating turd blanket on a regular basis. You know what I mean becktonites. It's like a big secret until it hits and you see the faces of people wincing in agony and kids shouting 'mum it stinks!'. Then it goes and everyone acts like it didn't happen. Even though the poo particles are clustered in your naval cavities ensuring nothing smells good for the next 30mins or more. That said I'd rather live in the pongiest bits of east London than anywhere else. The people make up for any short-comings. Newham council please help the people of beckton breathe fresh air for more than 2 consecutive days.
